consolidating servers - hardware

I am looking at consolidating my unraid server and a whs 2011 setup that I have. The issue that I have is that I want to use my norco 4020 but keep my optical disc drives attached. what I want to do is leave the optical drives in the rackmount case I have now and then place the motherboard and other hardware in the norco 4020. I guess I need to get power and at least 3 SATA cables between the 2 case.

Are there any back planes deigned for this? I tried searching newegg but I wasn't sure what terms to use. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

eSATA ports is what you're looking for. As to power, you can do it by just drilling holes through both cases and stretching the power cables out to the drive if they're close enough. Otherwise, you might look at putting a power supply in the other case and powering the drives off that. I think folks have had success with that, but I've never tried myself.

so two esata back planes will work together with a standard eSATA cable? What about from the backplane to the optical drives? would i need a gender changer of some sort?
