Help me find a cheap multi zone remote controlable switch.

AV is on a tight budget in my house. As part of the remodel of our duplex I was super limited on what the wife would let me spend. So the best I could do is prerun wires from each of the rooms to a central hub location (AC closet). I have 6 zones in total.

What I would like to do, is run all the zones into one single switch which has remote controlability, as I do not want to have to walk back to the closet every time i want to turn up/down - on/off a room.

My end goal being to run the system through an ipad or the new Google Nexus tablet, maybe linked to a Logitech Link.

I was looking at the Niles SSVC6 Black Speaker Selection and Volume Control System FG01044 but could not figure out how it is controlled.

Actually I am having trouble figuring out how any of these are controlled, short of knobs on the face of the device.

Help.

(First, we're talking about whole house audio and speaker selectors)

What wires? Just for the speakers, or did you run some control wires as well (Cat5e)?

Take a look at the Aton DLA series, paired with an inexpensive amp.

Now, what will your sources be? Those need to be remote controlled as well. Check out the Sonos Connect. But note that inexpensive solutions for this problem will entail the use of multiple apps on your phone/tablet. Even if you use a remote app like iRule, you'll still have to switch apps for controlling complex sources like Internet streamers/digital library players.

It's not. Just a mechanical switch. Knobs on the front.

The Aton is the cheapest device I know of that gives remote volume control for a number of zones, and has IR/RF/keypad remote control options. Using it with a phone/tablet would require an IR gateway device and an associated app for that...

I'm looking into using the Logiteck Harmony Link, an IR burst controller. I have not downloaded the app yet to play with it, but it if its like their Harmony remotes it should let me control multiple devices with one controller (app in this case).

I only ran speaker wires from the rooms to the closet, no control wires. I'll be using my Sony STR-DA1000es, which will also run for the time being the sound for the TV. I intend to use the A speakers for the TV and B speakers to power the switch. That way my video games do not broadcast to the whole house. I also plan on putting the Sony in the closet with the switch so they can share the Link for control.

I'll look into the Aton, thanks.
