Disappearing Thread?

Am I on crack!? I was following a thread here yesterday, which had an interesting discussion going on concerning sound quality, measurements, etc. (I can't recall the title of the thread) And now it is no where to be found. Is this what's done now, instead of simply putting a lock on a thread, the entire thread just vanishes?

Perhaps it was in another forum other than Amps, Receivers, and Processors?

I considered that. And looked through a couple of other threads to make sure. But still not to be found. Strange... I don't think I've ever lost a thread before.smile.gif

I tried to recall a name or two of who posted, and track it down that way. But, I'm having no luck with that either. It's not so much about the content, but I'm just curious as to where the thread went.

You might want to try a global keyword search if there were any unique keywords that were discussed, or better yet, as you suggest, if you can remember one of the posters in the thread.

I reported the thread as it was becoming nothing more than rudeness. Add on top of that endless off topic mantra and apparently they saw fit to remove the thread. Personally, I think they should do more of such... as simply locking it leaves everything in place and more or less promotes another round. I realize some value may be lost in the wake however at times you have to throw the baby out with the bath water. :) If you have an issue I would recommend sending a PM to the moderators

The thread is definitely gone - doesn't show up on my list of posts or in a search.

Just a guess, but I suspect the mods pulled it - there was some pretty obnoxious language being used by one of the participants in the thread which was getting worse just before it disappeared. Perhaps one of the mods can add detail.

Okay, I remembered one of the posters, and did a search on all of their posts... The Thread has been vanished.. No doubt.

Again, is this what the new AVS is doing, as opposed to putting a lock on the thread? Although, from where I last left this particular thread, I don't recall anything that might be considered 'out of hand'. But, who knows what was said after the last time I viewed it.

I remember a few other threads disappearing over the years, so don't believe that it's related to the "New AVS". Things did get out of hand late in the thread and I suspect that the thread cleanup would have left too much out of context information to be legible so the mods dumped the whole thing. Pure speculation on my part though and I could be completely wrong.

I was looking for that thread too. I was enjoying it. Sometimes the argument threads are the most interesting ones. I don't see why people have to report threads to the mods when all you have to do is not read it. Is it that hard to just hit the back button and go to another thread? I don't get why people are so sensitive. We are all grown here and we have the choice to read or not read whatever we want.

I think it has nothing to do with what one wants to read or not read and everything to do with how AVS comes across. In this case rather embarrassing. For a visitor to come across such it would certainly taint their impression... justifiably so.

It seems as if the moderators are doing blunt force editing based on single complaints rather than using a complaint as a means to review the content of a discussion. Too bad this entertaining thread was removed.

I may have missed some of the latter posts in that thread, so it is entirely possible that it had turned into an insult match.

But, threads like these are often most valuable for visitors, because without them, visitors (who are often less knowledgeable) can easily be swayed by misleading information (e.g., "external amps are always better," or "Denon is shrill, while Marantz is musical", or "this (expensive) power cord will dramatically improve your 'sound quality'").

The forum is generally self-correcting, so reporting threads should be done in extraordinary circumstances only, IMO (and unless I missed something particularly egregious, there was nothing extraordinary in the deleted thread).

But, it's done now....

I though the thread had some good spirited conversaion, though some was tiring with the "you prove it, no YOU prove it, NO YOU PROOVE IT!" back and forth a few times. Still some insightful electronic information that's now lost with the baby and bathwater...bad move IMHO.

Actually, it's never done as the mantra is repeated endlessly... which will probably lead this one to the same fate... we can only hope. :)

.

That's what I was thinking. I've seen far worse battles rage on for weeks without the thread getting locked, much less, entirely deleted. Which is why I was a bit taken aback.

Closing this as off topic with a reminder that discussion of moderation is not allowed in any of the open forums.
