I am attempting to use the picture setting recommended by cnet for the TC-P55ST50 on my TC-P60ST50, (see link).

http://forums.cnet.com/7723-19410_102-559444/panasonic-tc-p55st50-picture-settings/?tag=StickyWin_1332962727578;createThreadPopup

Under advanced picture settings, I am unable to set the black level to light because the box is greyed out. Am I not using the correct calibration setting or imputing something incorrectly?

I meant to post this under the ST50 thread.

That setting is only active with an HDMI input selected and active.
Do you have a blu-ray player or cable/satellite box connected via HDMI?
If so turn that device on and select its HDMI input, then you should be able to set the HDMI Black Level setting.

Remember all the custom settings will have to be re-entered separately for each input you are going to use, the HDMI ports, the internal TV tuner, media player, Viera Connect internet apps, etc. since the custom values are stored independently for each input source.

Thanks! I only have cable hooked up (without a box) at the moment, no HDMI, so that makes sense. This is my first plasma, having had a Sony LCD previously. I am still getting used to the darker look of the plasma compared to the LCD, using the cnet setting. Seemingly, the preset modes such as "cinema" look brighter or more like what I was used to with the LCD screen.

Yes I have observed that as well.
The Cinema mode apparently uses the default gamma setting of 2.2 which is a lighter picture.
The recommended custom mode with a pro settings gamma of 2.6 (as opposed to the default 2.2 setting) is a darker picture.
I've found the gamma at 2.6 is good with outdoor brightly lit scenes like with outdoor sports like baseball and golf.
But sometimes I prefer setting gamma to 2.4 or 2.2 (or use cinema mode) for darker scenes on some movies or TV shows.

You would love the GT50. wink.gif
