Just purchased Xpand X102 DLP Link 3D glasses (2 pack) for $26 - will I regret it?

Can't say, but I can tell you that I bought six cheapie Ultraclears, hearing that they were pretty good overall. Just to test, I bought a pair of Optoma ZD201 glasses and compared them. In short, there is no comparison; the Optomas made the 3D so much more watchable. Zero flicker, better color, brighter. Just better in every way. Don't cheap out, get good ones. I have an Optoma projector, fwiw. Best of luck.

I also bought some cheapies and the Optoma's are the best, but for the price of the xpand's I say try them out can't go wrong for $26.

test the glasses on your tv first if it dint work get the 3dgex103 instead..its xpand x103 glasses specially made for mitsubishi 3dtv + emitter and i assure that will 120% work for your tv. $26 for 2 pcs of X102 is a good catch though.

The xpand x102's will 100% work, as they are dlp-link glasses and he has a 3d dlp tv. I also bought 2 pairs for my optoma hd66 dlp projector.

there is difference between 3dTV and Projector when it comes to lumens and the glasses uses lumens to communicate to the TV or Projector the higher lumens the better and farther range you can view 3d. i had a x102 before for my 82738inch tv and was having sync issue with it i let amazon replace it with same glasses x102 the blue glasses and still same issue happened after i tried using the bundle package 3dgex103 glasses and emitter its now working fine and perfect for my tv

I knew that some of the x102's had problems with dlp tv's in the past because a bad batch of glasses were produced however if both products are certified DLP-LINK they should work if they don't something is defective.

The only don't like part about mine are the batteries. I think they are much more comfortable now after getting the bag of nose pieces.

It's not hard, I would use the method where you crack the whole case in half and take out the proprietary battery out and put the cr2032 in.

I received my two pair from this deal on Friday and just tonight was able to run them through the paces.
I have a DLP projector - Acer 5360 and up to this point have used only the UltraClear DLP Link glasses.

Overall, they have much, much better color and deeper blacks. The Ultraclears always have a grayish look to them with a hint of flicker. The Xpand have almost zero flicker, rich color, and I was not once bothered by the top and bottom bar during a 2.35:1 movie. This always bothers me with the Ultraclears.

That said, they seem to have less "pop" than the Ultraclears. Maybe it is because they also darken the image much more than the Ultraclears. This was easily adjusted and, at least so far, this gives a sharper, rich, more natural 3d presentation for me.

Pros:
Better color
Clarity
Deeper blacks
Not a bit of flicker

Cons
Darker (had to adjust and put fan on high)
HEAVY (Ultraclears are a hell of a lot more comfortable)
I lost sync 2 times and it seemed a tad tricky to get it back.
- oh, and the battery removal, etc. suck ass. like a lot of ass.

These will be my go to glasses I think for movies once I can nail the settings and make them more comfortable.

My 2 pair will be arriving today. I already have 2 pairs of optoma's which I'm sure are the best and another pair of cheapo's . I was just going to ask, you can actually see some flicker? I've never seen any flicker with none of my glasses.

I guess I wouldn't call it "flicker" as much as an overall hue or light to the image. Just like I know I am looking through something. Very difficult to explain. It might actually be what adds to the brightness of the Ultraclears over the Xpands? Just a theory. Closest I could come to explaining it is like on an LCD set when you crack that backlight up. It brightens the image, but - at least to me - it adds a layer of unnatural to the image.

I have played 90% of the game Killzone 3 with the Ultraclears and finished the game last night with the Xpands. It was darker for sure on the Xpands, but once I compensated for that, it was a nicer experience with the new glasses - and maybe this is a result of the Ultraclears having what I perceive as more "pop." Less strained using the Xpands.

The deal must be dead, as they show $70 for me. Darn it!

PS - you can't compare $40 Ultra Clear glasses to a set of unobtainable Optoma ZD201s which cost twice as much for people in the US. If the Optoma ZD201's aren't better than something is terribly wrong.

Take the O ring off its not really needed. You can pop the battery in and out with just your fingers.

Yeah the last day of the deal was Saturday. They are $59.99 now, but they were $41.99 for 2 pairs and there was a coupon code for $20 off. I also would take the o ring off since it's not needed it's just there to waterproof them so you can put them in the dishwasher.

Hey, OP was asking if it was a bad idea, I simply gave my opinion based on my experience. If you want to get the best experience, you are going to have to pay for it. If you want an acceptable experience and can't afford it, buy the xpands. But, my tip is for those who can sport the coin but think they can get the same experience with much less expensive glasses. Oh, and the ZD201s ARE available and, compared to the xpands, they are much more than twice the price. Still worth it, imho.

That is pretty much a high end price for glasses, so you'd have to compare these to MonsterVision or CrystalEyes models.
My only point was that UltraClears are the cheap-o brand that prettty much do all I need for a low price. You can continue up the price/quality ladder from there. Really, on my ancient set UltraClears are adequate.

From my research (word of mouth on these boards) the Xpand 102s have a washed out picture quality, they are bulky and heavy, changing the battery is difficult, and I do not believe you can reverse the sync on the glasses. For the discounted price they still sound like a steal, at the normal price not so much.

Fair enough. I mean, the cheapie ones I have do a good enough job, and there's no way in hell I'm going to go out and buy 6 or 7 pairs of the expensive ones for the odd time I have a bunch of guests over. I have one expensive pair because it's mostly me that does all the watching, so in that sense I find it to be worth it. And yes, for that price, you can't go wrong in getting the xpands. But if you're planning on doing a bunch of 3D viewing and it's mainly only one person that's doing it, I would suggest matching it with a better pair that suits your setup, and get some of the less expensive ones for when your friends come over.

My Expands came in the mail today and after watching multiple 3d movies with them and comparing them to the Optoma's the Expand's still come in 2nd place. The Expand's lenses are not quite as clear as the Optoma's so they produce a little darker image and the Optoma's have better blacks, but for comfortability I like the Expand's better. The Expand's never lost sync neither pair I could go into another room 25 feet away and they were still in sync, they had better range than the Optoma's. The battteries suck mine came with batteries that were dead installed and came with 2 extra pair of new ones. For $20 they are good, but I still like my Optoma's better as they produce a better image.

I pull the batteries out when not in use other wise they will drain down even though they should be off.

Yeah I'm going to, I read the manual and it says once you install the battery the power circuitry activates and slowly drains the battery even if the glasses are not on. I'm glad I only bought 2 pairs of these they are a headache to mess with.

I remove the rubber seal on the batteries to make them easier to remove and remove them when I put them in storage.
