From 36 Chambers to this. RZA is a supremely talented man (same goes for Eli Roth and Tarantino, of course). Wow, this movie looks friggin crazy!!! I can't wait.
If you've been wondering how soon you'll be able to check out all the kung fu asskickery contained in THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS, you can finally pencil your viewing in for November 2. That's when Universal Pictures has announced RZA's feature film directorial debut, starring Russell Crowe, Cung Le and Lucy Liu, will hit theatres, as it heads up against the likes of Robert Zemeckis' FLIGHT and Disney's WRECK-IT RALPH.
Saw the trailer over the weekend in NYC and it played very well for the crowd. I have no idea how the MPAA allowed the eye popping out of socket shot into the trailer though. It was not a red band trailer.
Well, it all depends on your expectations going in. I knew that Rza was paying homage to the kung fu movies of old, so much of what we see is done intentionally; imperfections and all. Personally, I loved it. Fun story, great effects, solid soundtrack and a sonic experience that ranks among the best I've heard. By the looks of things, you can expect a sequel in the future.
That's awesome thanks. I think my friend was expecting too much, this just looks too fun as long as you don't do the comparison to Shaw Bros films or Shaolin Temple stuff.
How would you compare this this to KB Vol 1 as this is prob the most in common.
I also love the Kill Bill series and there are certainly some similarities. I would say that Kill Bill has a better, perhaps more cohesive story while TMWTIF takes on your traditional kung fu storyline and executes it with modern effects. Iron Fists was certainly more dynamic and would be considered more of a popcorn action flick while Kill Bill is one that you can sit down and enjoy in a relaxing atmosphere.
So, I guess what my thoughts are is that they are both good in their own way. Kill Bill is the better movie, while TMWTIF is simply more fun.
I enjoyed this at the theater but my two friends, not knowing what to expect, were left dissapointed. I had a preconceived notion of how this film would be "told" and the style it would be shown in (over the top fun). Though I will say that even though it was fun, I doubt I will buy the blu ray.
Good Lord this maybe the dumbest, worst acting movie I've seen in all my life. It is so bad I don't know where to start with this gigantic big pile of trash. What I really don't know is how this Rza guy was able to convince some big names like Crowe to join his nauseating project, I'll give him some credit for pulling that off.
This movie should be used by film schools all over the world as the role model for what NOT to do with your movie project. Just god ridden hideous writing, acting, and plot. The majority of acting you see on TV commercials are all Oscar winners compared to this ok. The positive thing I see is that hopefully now this will scare off most studios in letting a rapper the reigns to your movie and let him direct and produce it. This is what happens kids.

Oh I forgot, thanks for mentioning that. Why would you let a dumb ass rapper narrate a movie that took place in ancient china when he can barely able to read the material? I mean it was flipping ridiculous. What, they couldn't hire some cook from China town and pay him minimum wage that would have still been 10x better.
It helps to know the powers in Hollywood; so that means Quentin Tarantino and others. Absolute trash that was totally over the top and repetitive and most likely did not last more than two weeks at the multi-plexes. Certainly, the last word in how to not shoot and direct a martial arts movie. Without the Quentin Tarantino presents, I wouldn't have bothered to see it at the theater. Wait long enough and this should go for $4.99 at Amazon and even then it isn't worth it.
I respectfully disagreed. RZA can write better than Arnold could talk in T2; the former's favorite word is F. U. as spelled out on the DVD cover.
That's not saying much, given that Arnold's strength is not talking. Someone has to support RZA in his directing endeavors, although it would appear to be highly unlikely that he will get another shot at it anytime soon. So, if you are willing to see him act and/or direct, that's your decision. Personally, I will make sure that I never see another one of his films in which he has the lead role or directs.
Saw this last weekend. I don't know much about the RZA, but I think he co-created those cool "kung-fu-Sprite" commercials about 10 years back. I also think he's part of Wu-Tang Clan, but I was never into their music. This could have been really good, but the direction and flow is pretty weak; RZA's character comes into focus way too late in the movie. Another cool concept that's poorly executed. Rent at your own risk.
FINALLY my NF copy arrived.....and I wished it hadn't.
This is a ridiculously bad movie.
Initially, I thought this might be a spoof of the genre....no such luck.
Unfortunately, the film takes itself seriously when it really shouldn't.

What the hell is R. Crowe doing in this film?
Collecting a pay check. Just imagine seeing at a theater and having to suffer through it, hoping that it will get better.
Wow. Some serious hate going on here. The one thing I would agree with is the choice of Rza narrating the story. Questionable decision. I thought the movie was fun, despite that. Being a HUGE fan of Wu-tang, I can assure you that Rza is a very talented individual. I suppose if you're not a rap fan, that won't mean much to you......but for me this transition into the film world was a must see. Rza has always laced his music with old school kung fu narrative samples making his stuff very unique to listen to. He has also scored movies like Kill Bill and Blade Trinity and has acted in many others. Just making the point that he didn't appear out of nowhere in the movie industry.
I guess if you don't accept the corny elements of the film as being intentional, this would definitely be a disappointing watch for you.

My blood pressure wouldn't allow me to...

His musical talent is not what I am objecting to....

I really thought this was going to be similar to TFE in its spoofing (at least it started that way).
Unlike the Besson film, this movie doesn't really make that approach work (for me, at least)...
I hear ya man. Definitely not for everybody. I wasn't responding to you directly with my last post, but I felt that he was getting slammed pretty hard as a talentless individual of which I happen to completely disagree with.
