Possible to go ahead and ceiling mount my new Epson 3010e without the screen yet?

Long story - short.

I got my Epson 3010e and ceiling mount in today. I want to get a head start and get my everything setup - only problem - the people I bought the screen from (advertise here and really let me down) - were not able to ship me my screen in time.

I plan to have a wall mounted or ceiling mounted screen. The screen will have 24" of black space above it so i will be able to adjust the height for the projector.

Is it advisable to mount the projector now without the screen? Any tips for doing this?

The screen will go against a wall (so I assume I can just put the screen up on the wall for now) - But once the screen is here - it may sit any where from right up against the wall to 8-10 away from the wall. As we need to see the performance of the projector and decide if it will work during the day (ambient light coming in). If not - we will have a 55" LCD there for use during the day time.

Please help!

Thank you!

It depends on what mount you use. It will be easier to mount the 3010 after the screen to get perfect alignment. But, if you have a mount that can adjust up/down and left/ right to give you some play when the screen arrives you could do itt first. MOST mounts do not have this adjustability. By up/down I am referring to raising and lowering the projector, not tilt up/down which it will need as well. By left right I mean slide the projector left or right not rotate, which of course it needs too.

I'm about to do the same, with a different projector though. My thoughts were hang the projector getting it closest to center. Turn it on, then mount/line up the screen with the projector on. Might get blinded, but oh well. I was thinking this as I'd rather drop the screen as opposed to the projector. My mount does not do left/right shift, only vertical (and both axis swivel) My projector also does NOT have lens shift.

If you have a mount that can do up/down it shouldn't be too hard to make sure the screen and projector lens are centered. I find moving the screen harder to do unless you have a mounting system you can slide it up or down. If you calculate everything well you should only need 1 or 2" of adjustment max, but that little bit of adjustment to get it perfectly aligned is nice.
