RX-V573 Yamaha problem!

I just purchased one of these and think it is an awesome unit. I do have one problem though. I lose hdmi signal if I change the volume. Yamaha site said to make sure all sources are 480P and up. I checked cable box and sure enough it was set to 480i. I changed it to 480p and voila it works. I can change the volume with out losing picture. BUT!!! every time I turn off everything and repower up the cable box resets back to 480i? Suggestions say to go direct to TV from cable box with HDMI and bring a audio cable from TV to reciever. Is there another way?

Perhaps never turn off the cable box. It uses little power by itself.

why do you want you cable box set at 480p anyway? Shouldn't it be 720p or 1080i?

you could always get it exchanged for a better working cable box.

connect cable box to TV and run optical from cable box to receiver. not from TV to receiver. running from TV to receiver may not give you Dolby Digital 5.1 for your HD channels.

It is only when receiver is turned off and on that it resets the cable box to defaults.

The Motorola DCT3416 is set for main output of 1080i. 4:3 override is OFF, 480i, 480p or stretch. I set it to 480p. Default is 480i. It is this 480i setting on the 4:3 override that cause the unit to lose picture when I change the volume. If it is set to 480p it works fine. But the receiver resets the cable box to defaults on power down and up.

The problem with going direct to TV from cable box is that I lose the receivers OSD. So no network radio screen, no network computer libraries, and no airplay screen. The whole point of buying this thing was to enjoy these features and reduce cabling.

I had the same issue as you and I was able to fix this by disabling "auto detect mode" on my cable box under the HDMI menu and removing 480i from the list of acceptable formats. Hope this helps.

(a) You're correct to say that you're sorry for hijacking the discussion. Next time, start a new discussion. But since we're on the subject...

(b) What model?

(c) If it has a voltage switch on the back, make sure it's set for the correct voltage (220/110).

(d) You need to provide more details--anything you think might be helpful for us to help you figure out what's wrong.

Did you ever figure out how to disable it from switching back to 480i? I am having the exact same issue... argh

You discovered a known V573 defect that Yamaha acknowledges but offers no solution or apology. The V573 resets and starts the source autodetect proccess everytime the volume is changed when you are viewing HD channels input via the HDMI and your cable box is outputting a HD 480, 720 or 1080 signal. Lower band non HD channels do not cause the problem.

They were happy to inform me however that the V673 and other models do not suffer from this product defect! Unfortunately I hooked up the V573 after the retailers return period expired.

Check if the speaker impedance setting (if there is one) is fully slid at either for 8 ohms or 4 ohms.
