Videos in Full Screen

Guys does anyone know what settings should I have to view videos files in fill screen? No matter what format the video files are in, 'm unable to view them on Full screen. Most of the videos that I have are of 1080P and plays gud with other players & TVs in Full screen but not on my PS3?Also plz suggest some software to convert videos to full screen format which PS3 recognizes.
