The Netflix Outage

So who else was effected by this outage last night? Here's the funny thing: after trying to connect and finally checking on my Android tablet for news found that the Amazon cloud that Netflix was using was out, I went to Amazon and watched an indie sci-fi movie I had noticed there that wasn't on anything else. IOW, the outage didn't effect Amazon. biggrin.gif

I just find this AWS stuff ridiculousness. Why is it that as a company with our VMs we can live-migrate our stuff to other hosts and networks. Does Amazon not have that ability with their infrastructure? Do they not have generators or anything in the plant? It's amazing how much is now depending on Amazon and it feels like we're going a bit backwards here...reliability needs to be more of a priority. Netflix itself seems to have issue a lot too even though this one wasn't technically their fault, they should have multiple hosts across datacenters or something.
