Technics sl-1700 compared to sl-1200

Thread Starter
I was in the market for a used tt. and i am thinking about getting a technics sl-1700 ( not a mk2) .How far off is the sl-1700 from a sl-1200 mk2.. I have heard they share allot of the same parts. So as far as sq goes are they similar or is there a big difference ?

how are you getting the 1700, on ebay?
if you want something new out of the box AudioTechnica makes a replica of that unit.
see here http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-PL120-Professional-Direct-Drive-Turntable/dp/B00012EYNG

or if you want to dump the old silver decor you can get this one

I have the 2nd unit listed (lp-240) and its the real deal. best part is that it is under 1,000. runs for around 400 and can be found for 300ish online. unit doesn't come with a cartridge.

Hi, I realize this response comes a bit after your last post and how do you know the AudioTechnica is a replica? Forgive my ignorance in this question, I do not mean to condescend.
Thank you,
CA
