Mits 92" DLP's 92840 or 92842

Bluetooth RF transmitter for the 842 vs internal IR signal on the 840 is one difference....not sure what Mits is recommending for glasses for the 842 though.....?

So the 2012 WD-92842 is demanding a $800-$1000 premium over the WD-92840 just for RF connect 3D glasses. Is it worth it? NOPE, complete waste of money. Best bet is the 840 and spending the savings on the RF 3D kit with a extended protection warranty on your new set.

Keep in mind the WD-92840 listed at $6000, the same as the WD-92842 is now, (which equates to more features for the same money) and what you're quoting is based on clearance pricing. Still an awesome deal, though.

You can't really just go off the features on these 2 TV's. There may have been some improvements made that could have improved the PQ as well in the newer 42 line up over last years 40.

Also like last years models have done, expect this years models prices to drop over time also. Last years line up has been on the market for just over a year now.

Please source on the WD-92842 PQ enhancements? Nothing is listed by MITS on their SALES flyers nor their Marketing site. Nothing at CES by Mitsubishi marketing staff stated their were going to be Picture Quality enhancements/. The only difference listed... is RF connect for 3D.

Please post the other enhancements your sources have stated are in the new WD-92842. You can get the WD-92840 for a $800-1000 less right NOW. If you are buying now, then the 840 is the best bet. The WD-92842's "value" doesn't warrant the price CURRENT price premiums.

Great buys on the WD-92840 from many sellers and with the substantial savings, you can put that money in your pocket or use it for warranties, Blu-Ray/AV amp upgrades, etc etc.

What about Remote PC Desktop-VNC? The differences are shown in the spec sheets I posted earlier. Again, it's a new model year. All they need is for one thing to change, and the model number changes. It's not like they're claiming any big upgrade or charging more for the same TV.

If you'd rather buy a 2011 Chevy because of the deal you'll get, then do it. It's the same with TV's.

I never said I had any sources like you said. I said there may have been some PQ improvements... That's all. Big difference.

Since when does any TV manufacturer ever make any claims in improving their TV's PQ with each and every new model they release? Have they ever? How could they even be able to make such a claim and be able to back it up with anything substantial?

As I said, there may have been some PQ improvements. If there actually are any is anyone's guess as I was implying earlier. No way to know for sure unless you were able to have last years model and compare it side by side with this years model.

Due to the decreasing availability of the 92840's, I may have no choice but to get the 92842 when I'm ready to pull the trigger. Luckily I have DW's approval on the latter's budget along with the other upgrades I have to get. Since I plan on using the MonsterVision 3D glasses, the RF might be a good thing. I too wonder what the other unwritten improvements will be. If anyone buys one soon, please share.

Update: Well I thought I settled on the 92842, but I have to wait another week or two to place my order. However I was told I should be able to get a special deal at that time though. I feel like a kid a couple of weeks before Christmas. I can't imagine waiting once it is ordered! I hope the MonsterVision glasses are on backorder then.

Are there any people on AVS that has picked up the WD-92842?

We did go up to BB Saturday & tried to buy the MITs WD-92840
We agreed on price match & ext warranty costs.
Problem came to getting one, they said there was absolutley none in their Territory [1/4 of US]
So i backed it down a notch & ordered a WD-82742
Same story
So i changed to a WD-82840
Same Story

They did say they could go ahead & place the order for me on whichever model i chose.
The hang-up was that they couldn't forecast delivery & it would probably be dropped off by UPS when it did come.. Where as BB delivery guys will bring it into your house & set it where you want in. In my case we want it taken down to the basement..

So we're kinda in Limbo now..
I'd call Walts but i have no idea how their delivery & ext warranty service is.

What you all think about this deal: demo unit (last one they have) 92840 for $1899 plus tax.

I was thinking about either getting an epson 5020 projector (when they come out next month), or a 92842 from Walt. But just saw this deal right now. They can give me another 5% off for demo unit as well.

My family room is 18' long, there's a 9' wide window in the back and light from the right side.
So tempting on the projector option, but I think this deal is a killer too.

Please advise.

On the remote push Menu then 2470. That shows you the total time the TV has been used.

I have seen quite a number of people claiming that they got 8,000 to 10,000 hours so 3,700 would be in the earily-mid range, you could still get a year of normal use. Also it is not just the hours, it also is the turn-on cycles. The turn-on of the lamp from cold is stressful. More stressful than just adding hours. If you have a high number of hours but a low number of turn-ons, your lamp can easily be in better condition than another lamp that has half the hours but double the turn-ons.

Keep in mind that the 92" sets are somewhat light limited and the extreme lamp life stories you see are more appropriate to smaller displays where you can just crank up the contrast later on. In addition to my 92840 I have a 2009 82837, the 82 was badly light limited in its deign and at 3K it was very obvious the lamp was not at its best anymore. By 3500 hours it was quite dim. If you do your own calibrations there not much reason to try and get the most out of a lamp considering their cost. I bought a 2008 Sammy 72 DLP and ulitmately gave it to my brother. When I did it had a modest amount of hours on it and was much brighter than my 82837, I don't know many hours my brother has put on the Sammy but it needs a lamp badly in my estimation.

I don't know if the 92840 is right for your room but if it is not a returned unit you could get a 4 year Square Trade warrany for under $150 and that would make it a sensational bargain.

This set was manufactured in August 2011. So I guess they probably have it demoing in the store since last September or so. Other than the light bulb, what other consumable parts I should care about, in factoring in the cost of ownership? I just wanna see if an one year old demo unit is worth the discount they're offering.

Also, I'm seriously considering a projector instead for my room, but don't have enough info/knowledge to make decision yet. And if i am to get a rear projection set, I don't wanna pass the deal if it's actually a good deal, especially when the weekends is coming up (chances are it'll get sold )

Just a quick background on my situation:
- this is a new place I just moved into last week, with a 13x18 family room. We watch tv about 4-6 hrs/day. Movies and sports (soccer mostly)
- So whatever it is, rear or front projector, it's gonna be the main set.
- I had a 60" rear projection (not dlp though) before we moved here, and a 60" lg plasma in my master bed room.
- the new set gotta be big. Hehehe, so either 92" dlp, or front projector (wall is ~10' long)

So if someone can sumerize a pro/con list for going either for me real quick, or point to a good post, I'd appreciate it. Oh, on a front projector, if we're more into 3d, I heard dlp is better in that regards, yes?

Ps. Here's my house floor plan, garage is not built. Sunroom is 15' wide instead of 13', 9' pool table will be on the left side. So one more quick thought was to just get another 60" LCD for daily use (my parents and 2 youngs kids under 4), which is on sale for under $900 at local store. And get a front projector for the sunroom to watch sport and movies (at night). But a retractable screen is required if we do this. . Lots of lights 'cause it's a ... sunroom

We went to BB told them i'd been advised they could indeed order the Mits & that i had talked to BB 1-800 & they said they never ship Big TV's by UPS.
They ship to local BB wharehouse & then arrange delivery & unboxing..
Store still said they disagreed & they do this all the time.
So after pulling 3 eye teeth ???
WE plunked down our Rewards & Credit cards & said order the WD-92840 for home delivery..
I even pointed out on the BB website where it spelled out what was included in Home Delivery...
Got a Decent price & Good Deal on the 4yr Geek Squad Warranty.
For the Super price we can enjoy 92" 840 of Beauty for @ least 5 years & then move on to newer technology if need be..

Can anyone tell me the length [width] of the base on the WD-92840 ??

Why do you shout about the width of the base (big oversized and bold type is the same as shouting). That information has been on the Mitsubsihi website for a while now.

It is 40.2" wide.

As said several times.
1. Turn on the TV and let it finish the full boot up and on screen displays.
2. Press MENU on the remote. Wait for the menu to be displayed (this is the step many people miss they don't let the TV finish displaying the menu before they do step 3).
3. Without pressing any other keys, press in order 2, 4, 7, 0. (there is no need to speed this, just don't press any other keys).
4. The menu will change to a service screen. DO NOT PRESS ENTER while this service screen is displayed. The total hours are shown on this screen.
5. Press EXIT to clear the screen.

GEP... unfortunately his post is in two threads and has been addressed in the actual 2011 owners thread. I can definitely understand the frustration BB can bring to anyone.

None. It is just that when we multi-post, it sometimes confuses others when trying to address your concerns when the answer has been given in another thread where one also posted. It is kinda like how the Oppo threads got confusing during the CEDIA...poor Bob is trying so hard to keep order over there.
