Looking for a media player with TRUE 1GB network port

Does anybody have any information about any hard drive media players with a true 1GB network port ?

Not interested in a media PC of any sort - too big, too noisy, too much trouble (although I have to accept the fact that so far that may be all that exists).

All I want to do is transfer content as fast as possible to its internal HDD so that I can play it back at my leisure. Not interested in streaming from PC or internet, wifi or anything to do with USB.

Sometimes I want to transfer 100-200GB and with everything I have seen so far transfer rates takes hours if not days. PC to PC is 20 times faster. I suspect that it will need a media player that has a seperate network chipset to handle network transfers rather than using the built-in networking facilities of the media player chipset.

I don't think I am he only person wanting this so can anybody help ?

The processors of media players can't handle gigabit speeds.

I suspected as much.
I'll check again in a years time.
In the meantime I won't be buying another media player until 1GB MEANS 1GB.
And I'll severely criticize every player that includes a hard drive because this means it is being sold under false pretenses.

I currently have an AC Ryan box (two actually). The first one has 100MHz port and is slow to download so I bought the second, and later model, because it was sold with a 1GHz port. Nowhere did it say in the specs that this model downloaded even slower than the earlier model. By inference the 1GHz was faster. Misleading advertising.
A bit like buying a second car with a turbo label on the side (because you wanted more speed than the first one), getting it home and finding that there was indeed a turbo fitted but the waste-gate was set to 0psi . However both vehicles still carry 4 passengers each. Technically correct but absolutely useless for what you wanted it for ie to go faster.

Chris,

Do what all of the smart kids do...

Centralize your storage on a NAS or personal computer and network your devices. This way you don't need to have the fast network speeds for streaming and you will have access to your files from any device. Easy to administer and manage.

Ditto! Media player are not made to transfer data to, but to stream data to / from, which doesn't required a "true 1gb network speed." Good luck looking for this in a "years" time. If it doesn't exist now, it'd probably won't exist later.

HTPC's are not big or noisy unless you build them that way. You can get a fanless E-450 built into a mobo that will do the job, although for day to day work its slow. Just saying.

A Himedia HD900B or the Micca EP950 (essentially the same unit) has a 1Gb port. It also has e-sata and USB3 and supports a 3TB HDD so it is very easy to transfer to the internal HDD. It also streams pretty OK as well. You can also run custom firmware to pretty it up a bit.
