guys i called onecall today and they told me that they can give me the 818 for 780 shipped no tax plus the Onkyo Wireless Dongle as a bonus, should i pull the trigger? or you think the price will drop more towards labor day etc?

well based on the fact that i called them right after he did, and I got mine for $850 (granted I didn't try to negotiate very much at all)......I would say yes. Call them now and see what they quote you.

do u guys think its wise to get an 818 now or wait for a price cut or perhaps next year's model? i can get the 818 for 775 shipped now but considering that last year the 809 was selling for 650, 775 seems high and not that great of a deal , what do u guys think?

It appears that 'onecall' is now in line with all the other major authorized sellers and has listed the 818 at full MSRP.

I called OneCall and was quoted like $900. I was told there's no way they can/have sold it for $775. He actually said that anyone who suggests otherwise is lying.

I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has been more successful with them or another merchant.

I called them as well and they told me its not possible to get it for that price and that they don't have any record of anyone purchasing it for $775.

They will not admit they sold it for that price, and second of all, i did NOT buy it yet, i was quoted that price, i cant decide if i should buy the 818 at that price point of 775, its still high for a reciever..

No problem. I'm not doubting you got them to $775 but they aren't going that low with me.
Let us know if you pull the trigger. If they quoted me $775 I would go for it. I could only get them down to $865.
How did you get them that low? PM me if you could. Just trying to replicate your quote.

I told them that PC richard had it for 799 2 weeks ago and that last year's model sold for 699 around thanksgiving and she said okay the lowest ill go is 775,

do u think the price of the 818 will go down to 699 in a sale on newegg or something like the 809 sold for last year?

As far as the price here, I bought the onkyo 809 for $649 in December. That may have been the low point. I actually sold my Integra processor to buy it as an even exchange. Not sure if I came out on top with that since the 809 didn't work out for me and the Integra was pretty much perfect without the bells and whistles.

I am almost certain the prices will continue to fall because all consumer electronics depreciate with time. However, If I had to guess I would think that the 818 will NOT fall quite as fast or to the levels of the 809 simply because nothing else in it's price range has XT32. You have to go up 500 bucks to find your nearest competitor. At least for now. I guess it depends how happy you are with your current system.

Personally, I have to replace my 809 which I sent back after 3 failed units and need to make a move since my theater is out of commission. I thought I was done with onkyo but again nothing comes close for this price. It's between the 3009 or denon 4311 or the 818. I can save 500 bucks and pick up 2 surrounds instead to complete my 7.2 system.

Go for the 3009. Or the 4311 if you can find it.

Just picked it up from Electronics Expo in person for 793.14 plus tax. Originally they were not giving me the deal even though I had printed out an email from EE that states bring this into the store for this special price. I just let them know that I can pick it up online and save the tax but wanted to purchase it locally if at all possible. 5 minutes later it was in my trunk. The nice thing about buying it this way is that they have a 2 week no questions asked return policy and they also have price protection if it really drops in price.

So far it looks identical to my 809. I'm wondering if I should try it out without external amplification first or should I just set it up the way I intend on using it.

Wonder if there is a huge difference in the Audassey between the two. Let us know

If you like Audyssey MultEQ XT (809) than you wiil love Audyssey XT32 (818), If you don't care for the sound type Audyssey MultEQ XT inflicts on your HT, than you would most likely feel the same for XT32. Audyssey has a sound all to its own, some like it, some don't. For me its 50/50, Thats why they have the Audyssey on/off switch, you will find you will use it almost as much as the volume buttons on the remote. I won't buy a AVR without Audyssey, I just don't care for its use with many input sources.

Well I never owned a High end receiver or theater.. Mine is still in the process of being completed so not sure if the MultEQ would be good enough for my theater room or should I really go with the XT32... Its basically going to be used mostly for movies and gaming

Wondering what the consensus is on buying "factory refurbished" ?? The 818 is $729 + about $30 for shipping.
