Just snagged one too. Actually went into Best Buy to try to price match. Come to find out BBY doesnt stock ANY Onkyo and when I asked the salesperson in the Magnolia area if they had Onkyo receivers in stock he said "what is that". I ordered this on my phone as I walked out of the store...

Ordered from newegg, then just saw the amazon price. Doh. Checked amazon, and the $650 looks like it's already gone - the best available now appears Vanns through amazon for low 700s... looks like I will keep the newegg $699 deal and call it good.

Appreciate the heads up! Just bought one and used Bill Me Later. Got a $20 credit for being a first time user and 6 months no interest. $629.99 shipped. Sweet deal! Looking forward to replacing my Lord knows how old Sony piece of junk. Actually, it has been a good trouble free receiver but if the 818 is like a new Viper, the Sony would be a Model T. smile.gif

Well, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I got an email from B&H today telling me that:

"We regret to inform you that due to a system error the ordered merchandise is not in stock."

Guess I'll try Newegg at $699.

$699 on Amazon now.
and now sold out at 799 on amazon. I missed it. I had checked Friday morning and I guess the deals hit later.

Those deals come and go quick.

my wife went ahead and ordered one from New Egg at 699. I had been meaning to steer clear on New Egg for some reason I can't recall precisely. I had read of some sort of trouble with them on large electronics. Any real reason for concern? I see they are authorized resellers so warranty should not be a problem

I've always had good service from Newegg so I don't think you need to worry.

The pricing roller coaster on the 818 has been just nutz over the past week. I've been curious to hear an Onkyo in my own system (have a Denon right now) so I ordered one of the used Amazon units (Warehouse deals) for $617. I already had it on order when the $649 (new!) apocalypse hit.

My B&H email says that it will be shipped on 12/12. I got it at $650 as well. I'm actually tempted to cancel and get a Denon 2113CI but I can't find it cheaper than $650 either. I don't think I need such of a beast of a receiver and I didn't want to even spend $650. Hell, my Onkyo SR705 has been purring along nicely for years.

Awesome. You must have gotten your order in before me. I ordered it via their website. They weren't processing online orders until after 5:45 EST on Saturday. I submitted the order right away. Oh well.

I'm looking for this receiver below the $700 mark. I have been looking for the last week or so and haven't seen anything. Anybody else with any luck?

Joel

As xmas nears the prices will start to go up in the good old xmas spirit of the retailers taking advantage of people in need to have it. It just may pay to wait if need be. The 818 pricing will always be dropping, like most mass market goods, unless there is a shortage by unit demand.

Ya, I finally pulled the trigger when it was on Amazon for 650 the weekend of Black Friday.

That was too good a deal to pass up, and 200 bucks cheaper than the normal calling OnCall for special pricing.

I'll keep my eyes peeled on Amazon as I do my xmas shopping to see if it falls below 700 for you!

Just got an instock update for B&H photo, the 818 for 699.00. Not as good as the 650 they were offering a few weeks ago, But if you're still looking, they have them.

$888 - best price for canadians

EDIT: actually, best buy should price match this which would mean $846.80

Good catch. And the page states:
"Offer ends DEC 17 '12 "
So this time we know how long we have.

Hope you jumped on the 699 price. Looks like they just raised it to 750 now.

Finished electronics treated like commodities, very odd. It is like the floor of an exchange. I was able to grab it at 699. The discount is still the same. They just upped the full retail to 1249.

Thanks again for the update.

I finally got my nr818 after 3 weeks of waiting from B&H @ $650. What a deal and what an incredible receiver. The video enhancements from this receiver are clearly visible. Audio is really nice too. I'm coming from a Yamaha RX-V1700 which is a pretty good receiver in it's own right.
Newegg has then for 679.99

Was it OOS when you ordered it? 3 weeks is kind of worrying me and I now wish I had ordered from Amazon or Newegg instead. Anyone know the typical transit time for B&H using their free shipping service?

I pulled the trigger on the Amazon price. Plus Amazon had previously emailed me a 10% off any purchase over $300. So that took off another $68 bucks! I'm happy. Time to sell my Onkyo 805. (PM me if interested) Honestly I would have never bought the 818 because of the superior amp section of the 805, but since I just picked up an Emotiva XPA-5 I no longer need the more robust amp. Looking forward to it!!!!
