I don't claim to have value on this forum, as a source of info. You OTOH, popped in here and proclaimed a serious problem with this model with no further explanation. You might as well have just said 'this receiver sucks and I can't believe you guys want to buy one'. If you're going to bother to post, and actually want to be helpful, you could at least post a link to the info, which is here- http://www.avsforum.com/t/1412714/onkyo-tx-nr818-official-owners-thread-discussion/4260

Thanks for posting that link. I wonder if the 24p issue they're mentioning in that thread can be fixed via firmware update?
The issue is confusing to me, since some are saying they can't even see the problem. As for fixing via firmware, there's no real info on whether that'll fix it. Could be hardware. You'd think there'd be an update by now if that could resolve it. There's a suggested fix(?) from Onkyo-Europe in post 4288, but no definitive reports that it's the answer. I don't see it as a real issue for me down the road since I plan to get an Oppo player and run the video straight to my TV.

899.00 is the lowest I have found today... http://www.rythercamera.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=48372

I found a package deal for 1,199.00. Onkyo TX-NR818 Home Theater A/V Receiver and Klipsch HDT600 5.1 Channel Home Theater System Bundle I wonder if the speakers are any good....

Not at the moment.

Onkyo moderators are giving the runaround saying "We cannot seem the duplicate this problem, please list all of your equipment and how they are hooked up". I dont get it. All they have to do is hook an Edge up to it and see that the BR player is sending in a signal at 23. 9??fps and the 818 is sending that signal out at 24fps, which in turn means that if you have everything set to 24fps, every 40 or so seconds there will be a slight frame skip or frame freeze. Onkyo is really getting some bad publicity for this to. It has been reported as early as July of last year and they have yet to fix it. If they can't, just say so and put it a firmware update that disables 24fps whenever it recieves a 24fps signal. I have this reciever and as long as you use a blu ray player that has 2 HDMI outputs, you can send one to the tv for the image and 1 to the 818 for the audio. Then again, many people bought this reciever for the video processing which Onkyo claimes "The latest and best video processing to date". Sounds like its just a really expensive reciever for audio only. Oh well, I have the 2 HDMI blue ray player so its not really an issue with me.

You can also run your HDMi out from the "Sub out" instead of "Main out" and that will fix it, although you have lost many features when you do that. Still, Onkyo needs to make this right.........Somehow!!

I have an onkyo 5007 and love it. I think your using it all wrong as in user error, if your BRP is outputing 24 just past it through or set the avr to auto, whats the big deal. Forcing double processing is srcewing it up. I know if I set the 5007 to 24 and watch cable tv its not smooth watching the stock ticker scoll by. Hell thats why they give you the power to choose in the menus, use the power of choice wisely...

I think you are dead on, I believe it is a hardware issue and that they used Black Friday to sell all the older inventory that had the issue at a great price. It would be nice to see some one with a Dec unit use the edge to see what it outputs.

Good price but not an authorized dealer. The warranty will be void.

I can get it at Newegg for $875 with my 30% coupon. If someone is wanting one let me know and we can get together and figure out how to get it to you.Its only for 48 more hours soooo.

Both a1components.com and fumbie.com have it for under 800. I have never heard of either of these sites so I don't know if they are authorized dealers or worthwhile companies but figured I'd give the heads up.

I think you should take that "your using it all wrong" theory over to the 818 thread and see how it flies. wink.gif

For those interested. Onkyo has a FW update that has fixed the 24fps problem. They released the FW update to a select few to test out and make sure it is fixed. Reports have came in and those that have tested have confirmed it is fixed. Now, the Problem?? Some of those nice "few" that got the FW update, decided to share this update without the consent of Onkyo. Since it was a "test" update and misuse of the update could "brick" a reciever, Onkyo has shut it down for the time being. Eventually they will release it, but it was a trial. Sounds like Onkyo is stepping up to the plate and FINALLY getting this thing straightened out.

They are not on the list I found here..... http://www.onkyousa.com/locations_intdealer.cfm

Tonight I went to all the sites listed on Onkyo's dealers page... Almost all of them had it at 1,190.00 frown.gif

Sounds like good progress. Thanks for the heads up, chrisu.

I just got one yesterday from J&R for $749 free shipping. Their website says $1199 but a Google search shows $749. I called them and asked and they sold it for $749. The sales reps name was Andrew. Good luck.

^^^^ Thanks Maniac2k for posting the J&R deal.

One more bump for the J&R deal. I placed my order for the 818 after seeing the tip here. Mention that you've seen $749 shipped on Google Shopping, but their website was showing the full retail price, and that you'd want to get the deal advertised on Google Shopping. Initially I was offered a price of $799 shipped, and I said I hoped I'd be offered the $749 deal. A quick check with the manager, and my rep came back and took the ordering info. Here is the google shortcut to the listing page on Google Shopping showing the prices on the 818 starting from $749 from J&R. http://goo.gl/94AAe

Good News -

I just happened to call BH Photo video for something totally unrelated and enquired the price of 818 and was surprised. BH has a special on this for only $599 and free shipping. No need to say, I ordered one right away. Linky to BH site

BH is an authorized dealer and this is only valid on phone orders and not available on the web site. $599 is the lowest I have seen this receiver for - EVER.

Make sure you call them and place an order over the phone, rather than web site where it shows $1199

Cheers and good luck.

Great find dazoy! I just called B&H and ordered one for the same $599 with free shipping. They did say they were in-stock still. That's an unreal deal on a XT32 equipped receiver! Now let's hope that the latest firmware that apparently was just released can resolve the 24p issue.
I can confirm this. TYVM dazoy !!

Ordered from B&H! What a deal!
Just got mine from B&H as well. I had called about an hour ago to confirm the deal and get it in writing, then had to pursude the wife. After she agreed it was a great deal I called back 30 minutes later and the salesman remarked he had 3 or 4 calls on it and sold a couple since we initially spoke. Word is definitly out thanks to dazoy and they are flying off the shelf. If you are on the fence better get in the game soon before the deal closes.

Sold out at that price. Back to $799.

When I seen the thread I called. Missed this deal by an hour. Aaawwwww
post #300 of 485
Called earlier and the gentleman I talked to was very apologetic but said special pricing was only for a few hours. He said I just missed it mad.gif He was very nice so I hold no ill-will toward a company that does business like this. I think it's smart.

Congratulations to anyone who everyone who got the great deal. $799 is still a good deal for this receiver, but now that I know it's been had for $599, well....... I just don't know what to do......
