Call them up and ask for that price. $749 is better than $799 anyday, or if you have the patience, you can wait for the inevitable blowout sales once newer models are announced. I had an immediate need (and an upgrade itch to scratch smile.gif ) so I took the J&R deal even though the 818 dipped to the $5xx range last year.

I took the JR deal as well and my 818 arrives today. They originally estimated next Tuesday for delivery, but now I get to play with it all weekend. Not bad for free shipping.

When I spoke with the guy, he made the comment that they had to get that off of there (meaning the $749 price on Google shopping). It did disappear for a day or two, but now it looks like it's back. I was kind of pissed that B&H had it for $600 just two days later, but that's the nature of the game I guess.

Looks like $779 + $30 shipping.

It is also available for $820 with Prime shipping, if you have that.

I don't know if either seller are authorized though.

None of the companies selling at that price are authorized per the list on Onkyo's site

EDIT:
However, notice that Amazon is listed as an online retailer. Wonder if ordering off Amazon would be considering buying from Amazon? Probably not but worth looking into. I'm personally waiting for the price to drop closer to $700 or lower.

Good question, I'd love to get an official Onkyo ruling on that.

For fun I hunted down the Firemall customer service contact info and asked them about their status... but I would trust Onkyo's site over whatever they say.

Someone post the next great deal already, I can't wait forever! smile.gif

Just happened to check Tiger Direct (authorized seller) and they have it for $799 shipped. Even though Google shopping has their price at $1199 still.

from what I read online there is a pretty noticeable difference, and the 818 is the lowest price point AV that it comes on.

hopefully it will drop back down to >700 so I can snag one of these.


To all the people who just purchased one, did you have to update to the new firmware yourself or did it come pre-loaded with the 24fps issue fixed?

If you have patience, you should see prices drop to the $600 - $700 range in late March or early April just before the new line of Onkyo receivers (replacing the 717 & 818) hit the market in May. However, as you know, from time to time, a large house like BH will run a silent one day special like it did a couple weeks ago for $599 (what a steal!). Unfortunately, that deal had a very limited lifespan of one day, so.....it's important that such a deal ever arises again it be promptly posted so all our forum buds can be alerted.

If by similar, you mean they are both AVR's, then OK. The S6500 appears to be the HTIB version of the TX-NR414 ($229 at Amazon). I doubt anyone looking for an 818 would consider it.

Accessories4Less has this at $798.02 shipped to Texas. Factory refurb, all included accessories with a 1 year warranty. I've been eyeing this badboy for a while and have read (almost) the entire NR818 owner's thread. Should I wait for the price to come down on the new units, or snatch this up? Thoughts?

Amazon has warehouse deals "Like New" for 719.00. I had to bite for this price. I know it will go lower but I bought a full 5.1 system ...and I need a good AVR to drive it. This receiver is best bang for buck out there... I am sure it will drop to 500ish...but can't wait.

Currently showing $681.19 with Prime shipping. Did you end up purchasing a SquareTrade warranty to go with yours? And also, did it have all the stuff that comes with a new one? (remote, microphone, power cord)

The 681.19 is Good Condition, then you have very good, then like new. I think there is a 20 dollar difference for each grade level.

I just went for the "like new".

I didn't get square trade but debated. I called my credit card "Amex" and they give me an extended warranty and 90 days return / break from the credit card.

FWIW, I bought "Like New" from Amazon Warehouse Deals late last year for just a bit over $600 (during that post-Black Friday price war). For all practical purposes, it WAS new.

Try calling again.... There have been several instances of people being denied and then approved after calling again... I bought mine from J&R and they honored the google price...

No I didn't speak to Oscar because I didn't get home from work unil right around 5. I did end up calling back around 6:40 and spoke with Robert, and he honored the Google Shopping price of $749 shipped. I'm so excited to replace my Yamaha RX-V663 which was also purchased from JR.

Same here. I've wondered how B&H would ever advertise secret deals like this. I mean, the $599 deal only came up when someone called in and asked about the price on that particular day and at that particular hour. The price was only good for about 1-2 hours. Without B&H ever notifying anyone (or even the website) of the price changes, how would we ever know? short of calling them every day and every hour to get a price check....

If anyone got them to honor the 749 price in last couple days...can you please PM me with order number. I am trying to get the same deal and Oscar is willing to do it..he just wants to confirm someone else got that price.

Thanks tons and tons! $50 dollars may not seem like a ton...but at this point...my budget hurt on the 5.1 project...HURTS.

I know this receiver will get to 550 in 3 months just cant wait.
