Thanks tons and tons! $50 dollars may not seem like a ton...but at this point...my budget hurt on the 5.1 project...HURTS.

I know this receiver will get to 550 in 3 months just cant wait.

Darktalonz:

Thanks a billion..well actually $50 bucks! Worked like a charm. They actually shipped my unit today...but refunded me $50.00. I really appreciate it.

If there is anything I can do for you...just let me know. Really really appreciate it.

Curious but how do we know that the new models are coming out in 3 months?

The new Onkyo line of receivers will be hitting the market in May as they have for the past several years. Please refer to one relative post below:

Probably missed my "window" on this.....Called twice today. Left Oscar a voicemail, haven't heard back. Called the main Price Match line and was told, "someone put that up there and it doesn't match the price on our website. If we sold that receiver at that cost, we wouldn't be able to sell Onkyo's anymore." Eh...I've got price alerts all over now...hopefully it'll get in my range soon. Got speakers on the way. wink.gif

IIRC Oscar is off on fridays and works saturdays; this was in an earlier post.

D'OH! I know I read that too. Ugh....guess the thought of the 818 at that price is scrambling my brain. smile.gif Thanks.

With enough of us looking for that "deal" to come around again, we may have a good shot at it providing we exercise a little patience - which is very, very hard to do considering I want it on my shelf now!

+1

I have to listen to stereo speakers until then.

J&R sold me one for $749 (shipped) today.
All it took was to get the salesman, Carmine x1013, to pull up Google Shopping which still shows their price as $749.
Took 60 seconds.
Nice guy.
And it's an authorized dealer.

Spoke with Oscar, he called me back early this morning. Got the $749 deal, out the door. Said it was backordered; looks like ursine got the last one. wink.gif Estimated arrival is 3/19. Thanks to darktalonz for the heads up!

Looks like new models are showing on the Onkyo site:

TX-NR525
TX-NR626
TX-NR727

Could this mean a price drop on the 818 in the near future?
It depends. The 727 is an upgrade to the 717 in some respects, but a downgrade in others. If Onkyo downgrades Audyssey in the 828, demand for the 818 may still be high.

What was the down grade, I read the release but did not see what the down grade or losses were.
They removed the pre-outs from the 727. 727 is not 4 ohm certified. No bi-amp capability for front. No THX processing mode. No Audyssey DSX. No powered zone 3.

You can go here, click the two receivers from the page and hit the compare button.

$699 refurbished at A4Less...

$949 new from J&R (I had to call).

With the price drop the refurb is very tempting, especially since the 828 seems to be a couple of months out yet... plus, we don't know what downgrades it may have. Thanks for posting that update.
J&R is showing it for 749.99 on Google Shopping but not on their site again. Anyone bite?
I might. If this is new, then chances of it going down to $700 are low...and $50 is a risk I can take. Especially if shipping is included.
Agreed. if J&R does $750 shipped I'll probably bite this time.
Anyone check on this yet?
Will call them today. On Google Shopping it shows as free shipping and no tax for $749.
When I called yesterday, $949 was the "best deal" they could do!
I had to call them a couple of times back in early February before I could get someone to give me the $749 + free shipping price.
Just checked Google Shopping - the $750 for J&R doesn't seem to be there any more...
Yeah, it looks like it's gone now. When I was shopping for the 818, I called OneCall to get their best price which was $800 or $850 plus shipping (can't remember which). They might be able to do a little better now.
