I have an Ikea Jerker from a few years back, without a shadow of a doubt the best computer desk made, ever! It had whole fan sites dedicated to it.

Sadly, Ikea stopped selling it - http://blog.search-mojo.com/2007/03/12/ikeas-crime-against-humanity-an-ode-to-the-jerker/
There's even a petition to bring it back - https://www.facebook.com/pages/IKEA-JERKER-Desks-Bring-them-back/131905880170573

Thanks! I just run around naked these days! smile.gif

Actually that's our second bedroom so it wasn't being used for clothes, just storage.

Never heard of the Jerker desk but there are a few great Ikea products for home theater like the Lack side table. It can be used as a 19" rack. Is the FREDRIK desk equivalent to the Jerker?

wait, what board is this??

What is a computer desk, and what is your definition of a computer? My computer happens to be at any given moment a netbook, droid tablet, or iPhone, depending on what I am doing. Of course, my work desktop could run circles around anything that you have or own.

FREDRIK replaced JERKER but the two aren't really equivalent unless you're looking at the FREDRIK as more or less the same thing with an additional shelf. JERKER was adjustable as desired with addtional shelf configurations and FREDRIK is exactly what it is though both occupy the exact same footprint and use in their out of box setup.

Actually, in digging through Ikea's website it seems there is a configurable version of the FREDRIK that fills the same need as JERKER.

My definition of a computer is an iMac or a desktop computer

NewOrlnsDuie, no you are humilitating. Sorry, but the Quad Core Xeon with two Dual Head video cards, 64gb RAM, sitting on my desk will run circles what you or others have.

Noble gases can't run circles around anything.

Highly subjective thing, so everyone has an opinion of course.

I've typicly used office store specials over the years...mostly because I havent ended up at a location nevermind home that I dont ever plan on leaving for a very long time, so between moving itself as well as different style of desk working or fitting better in a new place, it's just easier that way. Once I'm in a place and home I feel will be really permanent, then I'd go for a propper real desk vs the cheap particle board. biggrin.gif

That said, I have 2 right now....one I guess you would call a medium sized desk with hutch, no corner or L or anyting...and the other is a big executive type desk. One thing I HAVE noticed with that sort of stuff lately is the veneer/laminate might not be what it used to be. The one with the hutch has the plasticky solid veneer that holds up well, even to moisture, with the only real worry is the particle board sagging over time (which I doubt will happen with this particular one due to the design. There isnt a big enough unsupported surface even if extreme weight was kept on it). The executive style one on the other hand seems to have a FAR inferior coating rather then a veneer layer, and does easily scratch and is very prone to moisture. In fact I had a glass on it for a whole 10mins maybe once before, and the condensation from it blemished the finish. I hope they arent all starting to be made like that.

I do like the executive style desks though...they usually have a much larger actual desktop surface for plenty of room to work...looks a lot cleaner...and can handle about any computer setup you want to throw on there. Like say you want to run dual monitors or something, you can easily do that while a lot of the hutched desks wont allow it. Also easier to keep the keyboard, monitors, speakers, etc centered up in ideal positions. For printers, routers, modems, etc sort of stuff if you keep them at the desk, I like to use a matching office cart made for such stuff, small bookshelf assembly, or even a kitchen/microwave cart.

And you feel the need to point this out, why?

The closet desk is really cool even if you're not particularly in need of the space savings. For a non-clothes closet, depending on ceiling height you can probably still store loads of stuff above the desk. Unless you have a dedicated office space I think a typical desk and PC setup is quite ugly. I also like the wood finishing details - very pro looking.
