Then, you can hit signal select to toggle between the HDMI audio and the assigned optical audio. You can also set it to default to one or the other.
Thanks, Krutsch. I had managed to nut this solution out after I posted but your help is much appreciated. Of course previously, I was running the satellite box thru HDMI 2 and using the SAT/CBL input (analogue) for my reel-to-reel tape deck (Akai 4000). I've now got no remaining input to assign that set of analogue inputs to.
I've got a work around though: I'm using the BDR/DVR inout for my phonograph (Sony HP-215) which dates from the late '60s (I think) with tape, aux and tuner inputs along with line outputs for recording. So I can route the reel-to-reel through the phonograph, select that on the VSX and it's good to go. The only slightly irritating thing is that on the phono, the line outputs are intended to go back to the tapedeck, so they don't pick up from the tape input. I've therefore had to use the "aux" inputs for the tapedeck instead of the proper "tape" ones. This annoys me just a little bit but I'll get over it! (The alternative would be to use speaker outputs (it has A and B speakers, too!) to input into the VSX. This would annoy me more, and the volume controls would introduce an unnecessary extra element.
I've got a couple more issues, about which there is probably nothing that can be done, but I would be interested in any ideas.
1. I use my Blu-Ray as a CD player (rarely, I admit. Most of my CDs are in iTunes and I just use Airplay.) Now, the VSX-1122 won't send digital audio from Blu-Ray to Zone 2, but I want to be able to listen to CDs in Zone 2. So I've also connected the Blu-Ray with analogue assigned to the DVD input. So I'm using up two inputs for one device. Is there a more efficient way to do this?
2. The satellite box referred to above is branded MySky HDi (supplied by Sky Television, New Zealand) but is made by Pace, model no. TDS850NNZ. If anyone has any clue what code will set up the VSX remote to control this box, i would be most grateful. I can't get the remote to "learn" from the MySky remote.
