The DVD input on the amp is set to use HDMI1 and OPT1, however, when I select DVD, I only get the image from the HDMI1 input, but no sound from the OPT1 input. For some reason, the amp is trying to use sound from the HDMI (which is not there). Anyone have any idea how I can convince the amp to use the sound from the OPT1 input with the HDMI input?

There is a button on the remote called 'Sig Select' or something like that - try that to switch between the HDMI and optical audio. By default, it's going to always look for audio on the HDMI connection. It sounds like with your setup, there is no audio via the DVI adapter. Look at the manual and there may be a way to get it to default to the optical connection.

Or, you could save yourself a TON of suffering and buy a new Blu-ray player to match your new AVR. There are really good ones for about $80.00. Try a Pioneer BDP-150 (instant integration with your AVR remote) or a Sony BDP-S590 (fantastic streaming feature set). Any of the new BD players will make your old DVDs look great.

You are the best, this solved it! I thought about the other option as well, just need to clear it with my better half... eek.gif I have a few SACDs that I may want to play, so a universal player may be more suitable... Anyway, for now I can watch a DVD and hear the sound as well... Thanks again.

Why did you owners of the 1122 pick it over comparable priced avrs such as denon and onkyo? Looking or a $400 receiver and this one was recommended as a good choice.
I got this because I got a decent price for $320. I don't know much about receivers or how it compares to the Denon or Onkyo.
I'm trying to get HDMI pass-through but not getting any signal on the TV.

PC > HDMI1 on receiver
Receiver Output > TV
TV is set to proper input

No signal! Ideas?

Same here. The Denon I was looking at would have been the 1913 but it was at a higher price point (pretty much 499-579) everywhere I looked. So that kinda kept me away since I was not looking at spending that much. My luck with Onkyo hasnt been great as of late. I had a 508 and then a 609 and they both had bad handshaking issues and sub-par components inside. I had the HDMI board go bad on the 508 and the left and right channels were swapped somehow out of the box and needed a firmware update that as, a cunsumer, could not perform myself in order ti fix the audio channel swap problem.

I started reading about the 515 and 616 and learned that they were plaugued by the same issues so I started looking at pioneer and yamaha. I chose the 1122-k simply because it beat out the RX573 on features and quility from what I had read about both. That, and it was on sale for $349 on amazon and I got overnight shipping for $3.99 with my Prime account.

So far I LOVE the unit. I still need to play/tweak it further. But all the features like pandora, internet radio and media server capabilities are just great as well as the Auto Surround function. Over all its a great AVR and you can upgrade the firmware to stay current yourself, which is a huge bonus for me.

Is the PC set to use the HDMI function? Laptop or desktop? I know my Laptop wont automatically output via it's HDMI unless I do 1 of 2 things: Reboot the PC so it autodetects the display on restart or 2) use the control applet to tell it to start using the HDMI for a second 'monitor'. Have you tried other devices to confirm that the video passthough is functioning? And, are you talking about the video passthrough when the AVR is off feature or regular video passthrough?

Has anyone compared last years model 1121 vs this 1122?

Mine will be delivered tomorrow form Amazon. This will be my first AVR system. I ordered it with 2 Pioneer bookshelf's, a Pioneer center channel and sub, and a Energy Take 5.0 to use for surrounds. It all cost $729. I originally thought I'd pay more than that for my speakers. I was originally looking at the Onkyo 515 but it has so many problems that I went looking elsewhere. Pioneer has a great reputation and my first stereo receiver back in the '70's was a Pioneer 424. It looks like once you get this one set up right, it's a great receiver.

Features for the price and the quality of the phone app - no kidding. I played with all of the phone apps and the Pioneer ControlAV2012 app was both robust, usable and feature rich. The Yamaha app was a distant second, IMO, and the remainder of the apps were very poorly executed.

My 1122K just arrived. Yesterday I got the Pionneer bookshelves, sub and center. I'm a complete nube at this. The last electronics I bought was around 1990. I didn't see anything in the box about a firmware update. I really need your help with this; where do I start?

Thanks a lot, JS

You download thr newest firmware from the pioneer 1122k support site. Load the files in the zip onto a USB drive and connect it to the receiver. Then use the menu system to navigate to other options and choose update from USB.

I got the upgrade from here
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/AV-Receivers/Pioneer+Receivers/VSX-1122-K?tab=firmware
It is Ver 1-188-076-019-151
BTW on my unit, to do the upgrade I need to go
Home Menu -> 4 System Setup -> 4f Other setup -> 4 f 4 Update -> 4 f 4b via USB.

Many people have had issues with the upgrade process. Most relate (for some reason) to the USB stick they are using. For best results 8Gb or LESS (mine was 1GB), formatted FAT16 (as was mine) or FAT32 (others).

Good luck

Tom

By the way, if you live in Australia, this wont help you get Pandora natively on your AMP, Pioneer have broken our ability to do that.

So I just hooked up my VSX-1122-K last night to my two Polk 65T floorstanders for the first time.

While going into the Speaker Setting menu I'm not able to select a 2.0 set up. I can set Surr to NO and Center to NO and Front to LARGE but if I set SW to NO Front is then greyed out and I cannot select it.

Any ideas?

Help! I'm stuck!

I'm istalling my receiver and just 2 bookshelf speakers for now

I'm up to step 3 in the wiring Navi and it says ''Press the (detection) button on the launcher''

I'm lost, what do they want me to do?

thank you
Ok, So I bought the thing, and have answered most of my own questions from my earlier post. (thanks on the airplay to zone2 answer krutsch - that was the tipping point)

Observations:
That demo mode nonsense at the first start was confusing. Mine wouldn't work right until the mic calibration was done. New buyers - be prepped to plug that mic in asap. (my demo mode: off attempts didn't want to stick for some reason - who knows, maybe it was just me)

Ipad app is GREAT, but can be pain in butt trying to connect. Can't tell what the issue is, but since I put in the receiver's ip (instead of having it find the avr automatically), it hasn't come up with the error any more. Receiver really ought to give you a way to re-request your dhcp-set ip from the router straight from the network menu, It felt like all it was, was ip confusion between the app, and the AVR not brodcasting.

Arc is pretty cool, but certainly a little confusing, and INCREDIBLY not documented by manufacturers. "It has arc, you can use it" is about all my tv said. Replaced TV at same time (got the LG 60LM7200 - I'm liking it as well so far) I had to turn on hdmi control on both sides (and named differently on both) to actually get things working correctly. Arc being on on the tv and receiver wasn't enough. For those that care as to why, I couldn''t run my xbox through AVR in the closet because kinect cable won't function at that distance, so arc helps out there. All other sources in closet > receiver > tv. Xbox by tv > TV > receiver. All working great.

For those of you who use it as video switcher, but do NOT always want the sound playing out of your speakers, I don't think there's a discrete button for the HDMI audio switching on the remote. Logitech stuffed the codes in my harmony profile though, and now I have one button access to it, instead of having to delve into the pioneer audio menu to make it happen. Greatness. Now wife doesn't give me dirty looks when she turns tv on in morning and sound doesn't work. (crank it into wireless headphones at night quite a bit & don't always remember to set it back to hdmi>through)

Oh - in that vein, here's a link to get the Pioneer discrete code list for those of you with harmony's or any other remotes who might be able to use it. There's a ton & its great to see a manufacturer provide this info. Line 321 or so for the codes I was talking about.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Support/Home-Entertainment-Custom-Install/IR+Codes/A+V+Receivers

The sound? - No clue - haven't really got to test it yet. : ) All the other setup / stuff has taken up my time. I'm sure it'll sound great.

For 350 & change (BB pricematch), this was pretty much a no brainer. All the important things I used from my Elite-21, 3d capable, airplay built in, and an ipad app to boot, for 1/3 the price!

Looking forward to using it & checking in here from time to time to see the latest.

It looks like everything is working fine. Right now I'm watching and listening to Bob Dylan on MTV Unplugged on an old DVD. Bob never sounded so good in my house.. Right now I can only watch the TV with the AVR on and speakers on, is there a way to go direct to the TV and by-pass the AVR?

''Ipad app is GREAT, but can be pain in butt trying to connect. Can't tell what the issue is, but since I put in the receiver's ip (instead of having it find the avr automatically)''

How did you find the receiver's ip ?

Ugh, got tv pulled down messing with mount, so cant say what the OSD says, but in the home menu, option 5 is network info. Choose that & it'll put the ip & mac address (Ethernet id) up in a list on the front panel.

Or, if you're network savvy, I guess you could look for it in your devices in your router admin. Mine tells my uverse router that it's name is "745E1C102739" so that's not much help though. (if I remember right, you can change the network name being broadcast in the network settings section under setup)

Found ip, then when app errored, chose the generic connection that was on screen, entered ip & no probs since. (it's only been 4 days though, so not much of a test)

Amazon has it on sale (have to add to cart to see price)
As long as its from them and not one of their vendors, best buy will price match.

It's several other places for 399 also.

Yeah i got mine off amazon with my prime account for $349.
I opened the IPad app today and it immediately recognized the 1122. I have a lot to learn about this but it looks like everything works except Pandora. When I went to sign in as existing account the screen said "app doesn't support this function". I'll work this out soon but I get Pandora just fine through the Sony BluRay player

The sound is great and the picture is better even on old DVD recordings made on my home recorder.

It doesn't matter if the SW is on or not, because your fronts are set to LARGE.

You should really get a sub soon though. 2.1 is the minimum not 2.0.

The manual says the minimum for the VSX-1122-K is 2.0.

Not sure if I'm going to get a sub woofer now. In an apartment it'll be too much vibration and noise.
Right now I'm set up 2.0 and its playing in stereo. When I set it up, I used the Wiring Navi and I chose "less than 5 speakers" option.
