Hi guys,

just wanted to let you guys know that I resolved the issue of airplay not working for my VSX-1122-K.
I use a Netgear WNDR3700V2 router (a very common router), the Pioneer is connected to one of the gigabit ports.

Symptoms:
- Airplay works after first install and after a router reboot.
- After some time the airplay icon would dissapear from my Apple devices.

I have a lot of experience with networks and router configuration but I could not figure it out why it did not work after a certain period.
It was gutted, because everything worked fine for the Pioneer, my Samsung LED TV and Apple devices streaming from my Synology NAS.
My synology audio player (web) and Synology apps (on the Apple devices) were all able to use the VSX-1122-K.
But this was because they all used DLNA and not Airplay .

So I searched google to see if someone else had a solution, but nothing seemed to work or the proposed solutions were completely useless (someone suggested portforwarding or port triggering but that does not work on a LAN (only WAN) ).

After reviewing my setup and my findings, I concluded that it had to be the Netgear router. The only thing I could think of was to install a previous version of the firmware.
I was using the latest firmware, 1.0.0.36, but reverted to firmware version 1.0.0.12.

Airplay is now available and works perfectly!

just got one of these and so far i feel really dumb. i have an older mac mini that outputs through dvi. i have an hdmi to dvi cable hooked into sat/cable. i am outputting the audio into left and right - Sat/cab, however there is nowhere to assign it, im very confused.

also i have a wii going into component video, however there is no choice anywhere to choose the wii... what am i missing?

please help.

Brand new to this forum... here's my story.

15 years ago I bought a Harman Kardon AVR65. It has been flawless, clean and powerful since day one. Until 2 weeks ago. A couple of pops, hisses and one sound loss from all speakers.

So. Time for an upgrade. The 1122 is one of the finalists along with the 1222.

How is this receiver for power? It's so hard to figure out the dang power ratings on all these receivers! "Watts per channel" "2 channels driven" "all channels driven" "total power output". The problem is that they all give you different power ratings and they are all designed to deceive the buyer! Big power numbers mean higher sales!

I'm looking for a receiver that will drive 7 channels at high volume with: (I like my movies to shake the rafters!)

Hi All,

I am having an issue where DVD video appears "squished" vertically on my TV, like it's 3:1, there are black bars on top and bottom of screen (even if I use Wide or Zoom on TV control).

All other input modes (OTA, Tivo movies, AVI's, etc.) fill the 16x9 HDTV screen that I have. It's only with the DVD player that I have. My DVD player is an older Onkyo DV-CP702 6-DVD player. It feels like the video scaler (converter) in the vsx-1122-k is mis-interpreting the DVD format and compressing vertically.

I am using RGB component video cables and the digital audio outputs to VSX-1122-k. DVD player doesn't have HDMI output but does have composite outputs. Could it be the component video that's the problem? Any suggestions?

okay, I had the DVD player TV screen setting set to 4x3 when it should have been 16x9. It looks better now.

Does anyone know why, when I set up a security key (password) on my computer, it now won't connect to the Internet. My iPads and iPhones connect fine. When I change the settings in the laptop and enter the security key, it gives me local access only.

The D3 amps in the SC-1222 are worth it if you want a louder, cooler running product but the VSX-1122 is plenty powerful. For all 7 channels driven at high volumes I think the Pioneer SC-1222 is your better bet and worth the extra money in your case.

If your mac mini is as old as mine, you wont get any audio output from the DVI. You will need to us the headphone port at the back of the mini as well, and plug that into your amp/tv (depending on your set up). I GUESS you could use 3.5mm to RCA adapter, or maybe a 3.5mm to optical adapter. I imagine the optical would be the better solution, but frankly, I don't know if this would work, but in theory it should, shouldn't it?

I've got a Denon AVR-2312 that I think is dead already and since I bought it refurb over a year ago, I think I'm SOL, so I'm in the market for a new receiver. I have PSB image speakers 5.0 (no sub). Previously, I was driving everything with a Sony ES receiver which I love to this day (it's in the bedroom driving a second system currently but apparently about to be moved back to the living room for a while).

In any case, I get the feeling from reading several pages of this thread that people are mostly happy with the 1122. I don't drive my speakers too hard most of the time (I have kids), but do like to crank things up occasionally. My concern is that my old receiver weighs 35 lbs and has never hiccuped once in over 10 years. All the new ones weigh 20 and my Denon is dead after 13 months. Did I just get unlucky with a refurb? How is the quality with these? How hot do they run? How common are HDMI issues?

I'm having the hdmi issues. When I turn the components off via my harmony 650, when I go to turn it back on, the hdmi light doesn't light up and of course, there is no signal. I turn it back off with the remote, unplug the receiver, plug it back in, and use the remote to turn it back on, and it works fine. Any ideas? I have the command sequence o. The remote as receiver first, then tv, then cable box, then switch input on receiver, then (I can't remember the last). I put the receiver as the first thing to come on and the cable box as the last thing to come on, to try to give the receiver as much time as possible to fire up.

I found I needed to program an eight second delay for the receiver (from start up to switch inputs). Also check that the receiver is going to the correct input. If not experiment with the delays on the Harmony, then experiment using the first HDMI inputs (1-3) as I thnk the Harmony (or the receiver) gets confused with the generic "input HDMI" that is there is no "HDMI 5" on the remote so it has to cycle.

Where did you program the 8 second delay for your receiver? In the remote?

On the Harmony remote, using the remote software.

Maybe... I bought a Yamaha refurb a couple of years ago and it failed within a month; then it sat in a Yamaha service center for 10 weeks waiting for parts and then Yamaha sent me another refurb. I think you are throwing the dice with refurbs, so you may have gotten a lemon with your Denon.

FWIW, before I bought my VSX-1122-K, I spent a long time lurking on the Denon XX13 Owners Thread and my impression from what I read was that the build quality of the Denon units was pretty good.

That said, I bought a Pioneer this time and have not regretted the decision.

Just lost connection using iControlAV 2012 to my VSX 1122. Was working just fine an hour ago, haven't changed a thing.
Tried resetting the router, checked cabling etc. and all seems fine.

Any ideas what to try to get it back online?

This is not uncommon, re starting the iOS device is also a good idea. I sometimes completely quit the app (clear the cache) as well.
To do this..
Quit the app, then
Double click the home button, the most recent apps you have used will appear at the bottom of the screen,
Press and hold the app in question (iControlAV2012) and it should jiggle with a cross in the top left hand side
Press the cross and the app will completely quite (and I think clear its cache).
Then launch the app again and see if it connects.

Thanks, I had tried that but I have a number of devices the app is on and none will connect to it.
Everything else on the network is working just fine. Very strange.

Hate to have to do a reset but not sure what else to try.

So how many people are happy with the sound quality out of their 1122? Cnet wasn't very complimentary but I don't think they know what they are doing. What is the difference between MCAAC and Advanced?

Maybe the problem lies in that you have multiple devices trying to connect to it (or are still connected to it in the background). Perhaps shut them all down (except for one) while you are troubleshooting. When all else fails turn everything off, have a cuppa, then turn everything on again (starting with your router).
I managed to replicate this problem with my iPad and iPhone. Both devices appeared to be disconnected (i.e the app was not running) but when I tried to connect using the iPhone, I couldn't. Completely quitting the app on the iPad (as described in previous post) enabled me to connect using the iPhone.

I am new to the whole amp/home theatre set up, so I don't know how to get the best out of this unit (yet). But I do find the presets on the iControlAV2012 very helpful, when choosing between movies and music. I was hoping that online streaming services such as Spotify and Pandora would sound a lot better with my set up, but at the moment it is perfectly adequate, but not sensational. I suspect that has a lot more to do with the Kbps than the amp. I did find it odd, that when I did the auto MCAAC set up with the mic, it found 3 of my speakers out of phase (I checked and double checked the wiring) but the fact that it can self diagnose and solve the problem is pretty cool.

Another odd thing is that AirPlay and control with my home automation app are still working fine, with the exception that the receiver isn't reporting
back it's changes to my system.

Thanks, but nothing seems to be working. What it seems to come down to is the receiver will accept network commands just fine, it's just not sending any out.
Is it possible to somehow reset the network settings without resetting everything else? Maybe change the IP address?

Go into your router setup and find the MAC address for your AVR. Then assign it a fixed IP address. After that you won't have any problems accessing the system from multiple apps (ie your iPhone and your iPad).

I had the same problem when I was switching between my iPad and my android tablet.

Pandora is limited to 128kbps on devices like an AVR. So, yes, it sounds like crap.

The problem must be in the receiver itself. Setting a static IP unfortunately didn't change anything. As I say, I can send commands to the unit just fine, even AirPlay is working, it just isn't sending anything back out...which is why I assume iControlAV can't find it.

Really didn't want to have to reset to defaults but that may be my only hope...or the thing is fried after only a couple months :-(

Hmmm... can you go to a browser and get to:

http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/1000/system_information.asp ... your AVR's IP address being xxx

If that works, you will see a simple config page for things like naming the AVR and providing SiriusXM and Pandora account setup information. In that case, the problem is not the AVR, since it's clearly on the network.

I don't understand how you are able to 'send commands to the unit...' but that '...iControlAV2012 can't find it...' (i.e. the AVR). And, just to be sure, you are using iControlAV2012 and not just iControlAV, right?

Finally, if you've set a static IP address for the AVR, try going into iControlAV2012 and manually setting the IP for the AVR - see if it finds it.

Let us know what happens...
