Pioneer VSX-1122-K OWNERS Thread - Page 15

I was sending raw commands like "00035ggh" from my home automation software to it just fine, but the iControlAV 2012 still wasn't finding it.
As posted above, I was able to get it working again simply by unplugging it's ac for a few mins.

Thanks,

Carl

Will the 1122 have any problems driving a set of M&K 750thx speakers? They are 4ohm. Not trying to hit reference levels, but room is decent size at 14x25.

If so, any other suggestions on a receiver under $400? Was trying to find the older brother 1121k, but no luck so far.

I have a chance to get one of these that is an open box return for pretty cheap. My Marantz SR5002 is great and trouble free, but only has 2 HDMI inputs and I would like at least one more at the moment.

It seems pretty great, but why does everyone accept that it needs to be unplugged to just keep working correctly? My Yamaha RX-V630 worked flawlessly and so does the Marantz. Now neither has the features of course, but it seems like there is a lot of interface issues with these.

Anyways, just curious, not busting balls or anything.

Other than some difficulty with the last upgrade, mine has been flawless - I've never had to cold boot (unplug) my VSK-1122-K and its my daily driver for all things A/V - gaming, music and movies.

That said, I don't have a cable box and my recollection is that many of the HDMI issue reported have been with cable boxes and HDMI handshaking. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, other vendors have had similar issues with the cable box problem, so I'm not sure you can fault Pioneer.

As always, YMMV...

Hooked up my 1122 today. Can't figure out how to set for 5.1...keeps giving me an error that my speakers are set wrong and to check the connections??? Sub isn't recognized either.

Yeah, I had a similar experience, it said my speakers were out of phase and to check the connections. It then went on to fix the problem. Nasty sound that that set up process makes. I haven't run it a second time yet (to see if the set-up sticks, or goes back to normal after powering down).
Make sure you have your back speakers plugged into "surround" and NOT "Surround Back" (like I had). I'm not sure about your Sub, only to ask if you have double checked it is going into the right port for it.

Is this true??? My rear surrounds are plugged into back surround.

So the pass through thing...does it only work for 1 output? I want the ps3 and the Directv to pass through.

surrounds in 5.1 should be plugged into surround speakers

surround backs for 7.1 should be plugged into surround back speakers...

Does anyone know if you have to redo the mcacc setup after reset the receiver? The demo screen comes back so I would assume u have to, but the manual, says "note that all settings will be saved, even if the receiver is unplugged.

I think BAMAVADER is right, I have 6.1, the surrounds are plugged into 'surround' and the 1 rear speaker in one of the surround back posts (cant remember right or left).

There is a setting in the HDMI menu for this. It either allows pass-through from a single HDMI, or from the last HDMI ("Last") that was active when the Amp was on. Select "Off" for none. See Page 55 of the manual. The input can also be switched when the amplifier is off using the remote.

Well, I am starting to make this receiver do its thing. I reset it. Reran the advanced macc, and have it all set up on it is working flawlessly. My question is the stream smoother setting on the app. Do you guys use it? Set it on auto? I am loving this thing. The apps are the most awesome things ever. If it doesn't have any hdmi hiccups, I will be more than satisfied. Oh, I also set the inter device delay to 2 seconds. Again, loving this receiver and the apps right now. And the airplay.
I suspected that the channel levels were not right after doing the mike thing and sure enough. Using a dB meter, the rears were 10 dB low! correcting this makes a huge diff.

I just want to say, this thing works great. I am very very impressed. It is my first decent receiver, but the network, airplay, pandora, internet radio, tuner, apple tv all of it is running so smooth. I think I said it above, but I am stoked.

Hi All
I do not know loads about amps and speakers but the specs on this VSX1122 looked OK compared to others and I really liked the android app. I have stumbled upon some B&W ccm818 -
http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/Speakers/Custom_Installation/CI_Series/CCM818.html
5 of them actually, I pulled the amp directly out of the box and had a mate here who is a musician and we though it would struggle a little to run them so we set up the two front mains and centre. It just flat out sucked it could hardly move the woofer/main drives and the tweeters were weak. I am aware the speakers are in a different price bracket to the amp but I thought it might do something. In the end we tried one speaker on the left channel and had a direct HDMI source and it still couldn't do it. I am very unimpressed - am I missing something or do I just need to go buy a better amp? Thanks NOOB

HDMI issues again. From a cold boot, the receiver can't negotiate the HDMI connection. Calling pioneer Monday.

Mowse, sorry to hear / read you're having trouble w/ your receiver!

Couple questions, did you run MCACC and what is your source for audio?

BlackRam, what sub are you trying to use? Make and model # please.

I did run the MCACC first and the source was a samsung DVD player using HDMI out direct to cd/dvd hdmi in, with 2 speakers I had the amp set to stereo, but no bottom end at all. I will try it all again from the begining but first up I am taking two of my speakers to my mates house to hook up to a 300w stereo power amp and see what they are supposed to sound like when being fed properly, then I will compare and decide on the vsx. Cheers

Added - Whoaaa my speakers are seriously under powered using this amp, just 2 CCM818 on my mates power amp at 35% and thats all the volume I need - I will have one last go with VSX1122 then look at upgrading it.

Hi fellas, been floating on this thread for a few days trying to get some inside scoops on this receiver. I originally was looking to get an Onkyo TX-NR616 until I kept repeatedly reading the horror stories associated with those AVR's. The bad Onkyo reviews as well as already owning a Pioneer receiver (520-K) which I love prompted me to search for Pioneers. My question for you guys is what is the difference between Zone 2 and B speakers? I want to run a 7.1 set up in my living room (with surround backs NOT front height/wide channels) and power two separate speakers in my kitchen to listen to music, not being able to run them both simultaneously isn't a deal breaker. I noticed on the pictures of the back of the 1122 that it has Zone 2 associated with the surround backs by the binding posts and B associated with the front heights in the same place. Any info you guys can hook me up with the shed the light on the subject would be great.

The short version is that Zone 2 can play a different source than Zone 1 (e.g. TV in the living room and Internet radio on the patio). Zone B (or B speakers) really refers to a second set of speakers playing the same 2-channel content from the main or speakers A. The VSX-1122-K supports Zone 2 and it works pretty well - I use it all of the time to send audio to a separate set of powered speakers. Note that Zone 2 requires a separate amp w/ a volume control - the RCA outs for Zone 2 are line-level. Also, note that Zone 2 only plays back analog audio and the built-in audio sources (i.e. Airplay, DLNA Media Server, Internet Radio, SiriusXM). The digital sources need to run a separate set of analog RCA cables to the matching analog inputs for Zone 2 outs. The manual describes this in detail.

Thanks for the response. Thats what I expected for the most part. Now this question might even be dumber. Can I listen to just the B speakers or just my main setup or is it an all or nothing deal? Or can I only listen to one room at a time and not both? Also on a side note, I'm going to be running this through Polk Tsi300 towers, CS10 center, T300 bookshelves for surrounds and eventually a set of OWM3's for rear surrounds. I'm assuming this will have enough gas in the tank to power this set up and keep up with my SVS pc12+. My rooms not tiny but not huge either.
On the front of the amp is a button that cycles between A-speakers, B-speakers, A+B speakers, and no speakers. I use B speakers for the ceiling speakers in the Bedroom and Bathroom, as well as the patio. This way, I can select to play music in my living room (7.1, Speaker A), or the rest of the house (stereo, Speaker B), or both. B-speakers need an amp, so you sacrifice the front height/front wide surround channels for it.

Just to clarify Zone 2: According to the manual (p28-29) there are two ways to achieve Zone 2 (playing a different componenth than zone 1):
1. You can use the "Zone 2 out" RCA plugs and a separate Amp like Krutsch described
2. You can also run zone 2 speakers directly from the surround back speaker terminals, but you will only be able to play 5.1 on zone 1 (since you sacrificed the surround back amps to play zone 2).

I wish that there would be an option in the setup to choose whether the Front wide/high terminals would function as Zone 1 or Zone 2, this way you could have Zone 2 while still using 7.1.... Maybe in the next firmware? Pioneer? rolleyes.gif

So... not sure what you are asking, but with a Zone 1 / Zone 2 setup, you can listen to one, the other or both, as you wish, with separate or the same source audio.

I can't answer your question about your speakers - only you can tell if the sound level/quality where you want it.

Enjoy your new AVR!
