Mac Mini - Digital Audio Input...how?

Hello,

I have a Mac mini (2011 i5). I connected a digital source to its digital audio input and don't get any sound.

The following is how I set it all up:
Digital source (stereo PCM)-toslink---->Mac mini, FireWire
>TC impact twin interface ----> spdif to active digital speakers.

Despite my effort I get no sound and I'm wondering whether it's possible at all to get sound from the digital input on the mac mini.

The reason I'm doing this is because I'm considering the possibility to connect a sonos system to the Mac and have all music (iTunes included) equalized by Dirac live software before reaching the speakers.

Any thoughts? I would greatly apreaciated them.

Thank you.

Are you saying you are connecting the toslink somehow to the Firewire input?

Are you using a Toslink mini-plug to use digital audio input on the Mac Mini?

Sorry if i wasn't clear:
Mini Digital toslink into Mac mini---> FireWire into sound interfaceace TC Impact Twin---> digital coax cable directly into active speakers.
