Hey guys, i've just picked up my first home theater system. I am a beginner and working on a small budget. I'll cut to the chase, these are the items i picked up:

Receiver: Pioneer VSX-1022-K 7.1-Channel 3D Ready A/V Receiver $299
Front L/R: Pioneer SP-FS51-LR Floorstanding Speakers Pair $130
Center: Pioneer SP-C21 Center Channel Speaker Each $50
Surround L/R: Pioneer SP-BS21-LR Bookshelf Loudspeakers Pair $50
Subwoofer: Pioneer SW-8 100W Powered Subwoofer Each $80

Total Shipped from Newegg is $609.

I'll mostly be using this system for: Music, Downloaded HD movies, PS3, an occasional BluRay.

I'm a complete newb in regards to HT setups so this thread may be too basic for a lot of you guys.

Those are very good budget speakers, but honestly the sub isn't very good. You should see about possibly sending it back and going with this one

Will that sub be compatible with the Pioneer VSX 1022 receiver?

Any sub will be compatible. What is your budget? Also what size is your room?

my room is 15ft wide, 10 ft long (sofa to TV is about 7-8 ft of the "length")

the Dayton SUB10... is it $30 better than the Pioneer sub? (sorry, need quick replies here because newegg order status is already at packaging, after that i won't be able to cancel the order...)

If it was me I would get the Dayton over the Pioneer. Newegg also has the Energy S10.3 for $189. I would take that one as well over the Pioneer.

I'd recommend going to a Best Buy and giving a listen.

Your system will sound awesome. It will sound a hundred times better than using TV speakers. Congratulations. You got a good setup for an excellent price.

I just got a similar system but went with the 41s when newegg had them down to 99$ and the polk PSW505 with a yamaha V671 for the receiver. I actually got a killer deal on the sub they already had it for 249 but also had a coupon for 50$ off so I picked it up for 199.

Biggest problem I'm finding is I didn't look at the size of the surround speakers and now I might have to mount them sideways in the top corner of the room.. Doors and other variables are messing up with my placement.

Good to know I'm not the only one trying out these speakers though. The center channel sounds heads and tails better than my old system.

Shawn.

so all my parts are here and i seem to have everything set up and just did the MCACC setup.

The system sounds just as good or better than my father's polk system (entry level polk towers, polk center, and 2x old bose surrounds + Onkyo SR606)

Quick questions:
1. What crossover/gain should be a good starting point for my subwoofer (Dials are on the rear of the sub)
2. What crossover is good to set on the pioneer receiver?

I didn't think too much of it prior to purchase, but the VSX-1022 doesn't have any front auxiliary inputs. I have extras on the rear, but with so many wires (5 HDMI cables, 5 sets of speaker cables) in a small cabinet it will be hard to connect a friends camcorder/camera/etc for viewing their videos. I guess that was my fault in not realizing it before purchasing.

1) Turn the crossover setting all the way up on the sub. Looks to be about 5 o'clock on the dial from the picture I can find. The receiver will handle it based on how you set the crossover with the speakers.
2) 80hz is typically a good guess, and commonly what many people use.
