Issues with multi audio out....

Hey guys, first post!! smile.gif
Been perusing the forums for a while now and absorbing info, but this is one I could really use some expert input on.

I've had a HTPC for about a year now and "I'm loving it!" wink.gif
I use it as a cable/dvr box, movie center, and gaming center.

I decided to go with an AMD board because of the cheap cost, and the fact I knew I was going to get an ATI/AMD GFX card.
Here is the main components involved in what I'm trying to do:

LG 47LD450
MSI 880GM-E43 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI (HD 4250) Motherboard
And I recently added a dedicated XFX Radeon HD 6870

Now that you have a little background on the components involved, here's what I'm trying to accomplish:

Multi-room wireless sound. I'm using the rocketfish wireless audio system. I have one sender/receiver hooked up to our main PC, and another hooked up to the HTPC.
The one with the main PC works fine, since it's stereo. The one hooked up to the HTPC is the one I'm trying to get worked out.

My HTPC goes from the XFX Radeon HD 6870 to my receiver (Yamaha RX-V371) via HDMI, and then to my TV. The problem is there is only one digital output on the receiver, the HDMI that goes to the TV. So to get sound to the rocketfish receiver as well I had to enable "AMP+TV" on the receiver so it would also send audio out of the TV speakers. From here can hook up 3.5mm audio cable to the headphone output jack of the TV to the rocketfish receiver to gets sound as well as sound coming out of the receiver speakers.

Now in windows it says the sound is stereo (because I have the audio sent to the TV as well, which is stereo) and no more 5.1 surround available. To get 5.1 again I have to change the receiver from "AMP+TV" to "AMP only" – then I lose the ability to get sound out of the rocketfish.

Sorry for the LONGGGGG post, but I didn't know of a more condensed way to explain what I'm after. It really comes down to the ability to output both surround (digital) and stereo (analog) from one source (the HTPC).

I have no idea if this is even possible or not, but I figured someone here would have the answer wink.gif

P.S. Even though my receiver does have analog/stereo out in addition to the HDMI out, the analog only works if there is an analog input as well. So with HDMI in from the HTPC, the analog out does nothing.

Can you get 5.1 in Windows Media Center while it is set to Stereo in Windows? This is possible I'm just asking if you are able to do it with your set up or if it only allows stereo inside WMC.

When I used just the onboard HDMI out (built-in HD 4250) it would only list stereo within Windows, but would actually output surround to the receiver. So I know what you're talking about here.
Now with the 6870 it shows surround output, but when I enable the "AMPT+TV" on the receiver, in Windows it says stereo is the only output option, and it does in fact only output stereo.

I'm talking about the audio settings from within Windows Media Center not Windows > Control Panel > Sounds.

I didn't go to control panel to get that info, it was from the sound icon in the task bar. Maybe the same thing, but I don't know?
Here are some images that may make things a bit clearer. In both cases nothing has been changed within the HTPC (Windows 7) – only the HDMI audio output of the Yamaha receiver.

This image is with the receiver set to "AMP+TV":

And this one is with receiver set to "AMP only":

I think I found a solution, maybe. It looks like I can output through both HDMI's (dedicated GFX and on-board GFX) on the HTPC. In the window I have open it actually shows both devices already. So I think I can output the HDMI from the dedicated card to the receiver, then to the TV. And then use the on-board HDMI out to this (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=7112&seq=1&format=2). From here I can hook up analog or digital and it will output sound to both (plus extra HDMI in/out for expandability in the future?)

Seems a bit overkill, but can't think of an easier solution. I need it to work all the time, and not have to change the setting on the AV receiver constantly.

Sounds great but I don't think that will work. HDMI must HTPC sync frown.gif

Can you explain? I don't understand what you mean by "HDMI must HTPC sync"? Thanks!
