Good afternoon, I'm completely new to projectors and have a question for you pros. I bought the LG HW300T projector this past week and love the picture. I was wondering if there's any way that I can hook up a surround sound system to it? I noticed that there's not an Audio Out component but thought I could use the Headphone outlet and rig something up. I hope there's a simple solution but can't find it myself. Anyway, any guidance/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Easiest way is to find a speaker system (home theater in a box) that supports HDMI in and out. Even many soundbars will support. If you like audio the best solution is to buy a dedicated AV receiver that supports HDMI and then buy your speakers and subwoofer separately.

If you only have a headphone out and 100$ to spare, try looking for a set of computer speakers. They take headphone levels with an 8th inch jack and can be had for pretty cheap on sale.

Yeah, if your budget is only $100 this is probably your best bet.

You need an HT receiver and 5 speakers plus a subwoofer. The receiver will process the sound, amplify it and drive the speakers, and send the video to the projector, probably via an HDMI connection.

The Denon 1612 will be a good receiver for you, and it is remarkably inexpensive at only $250 or so. I would start by getting it.

The next step is a set of speakers. That will require a budget of somewhere between $500, for some pretty basic speakers, to $1500-2000 for some speakers that will actually sound pretty decent.

For $100 you can get a pair of Behringer MS16 powered speakers from Amazon that will connect to your projector and give you some basic 2-channel sound; they have built-in amplifiers and will connect to your projector. This is about 100 miles away from a decent surround-sound system, but it will get some sound in the room for start-up.

with a $100.00 budget your only option would be computer speakers, or possibly some cheap "studio monitors". I don't think you would be impressed at all with the sound, especially if your room is big, which is assume it is because you have a projector.

These are much better then computer speakers in every way, http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Studiophile-Powered-Monitor-Speakers/dp/B0051WAM64/ref=pd_cp_MI_0 and would be your best bet if you can't change your budget to $500+ :P

Notice the audioengine ad at the top of the page? those are pretty good powered speakers and would sound good. They (the A2s at least) will run you 200 dollars/pair. A sound bar might be the way to go, although don't expect surround sound!

It is what it is for the budget. I agree with the audioengine recommendation. It will give you decent sound (better than any built in TV speakers), but if you want true 5.1 sound you are going to need to spend more money.

That looks like a decent deal for the price. If you check CNET and Amazon user reviews you'll hear a lot of complaints about the system failing, which I'd be a little concerned about.

You would use the audio out on your sources - cable box, dvd, and hook them up to a receiver for surround sound

That store seems very shady... No phone number and their customer service is a hotmail address... I would stay away.
