I currently have JBL Sat10 speakers and a JBL Bass16 subwoofer and I am not that satisfied with the sound I am getting from them. I also have a Sony STR-DE845 receiver. They are all about 15 years old. I was thinking about getting a new surround system because of this but there are some other things I might want to do first. The voices always sound slightly muffled on my center speaker and when I switch it out with another of my surround speakers, this doesn't happen. Also, my subwoofer is not that powerful (even with the gain turned all the way up) and I want something that produces more bass. I also don't like that my sub only has speaker level inputs and outputs and that I have to connect my sub to the speakers and receiver with speaker wire. One of the things I could try first is to keep checking ebay for any sat10 speakers for sale to replace my center speaker. I could also replace my subwoofer with a more powerful one and one that actually has a subwoofer out/LFE out jack. Lastly, all my front speakers rest on a TV stand with only 3 feet separating the front left and right speakers so maybe I should get some speaker stands and spread the front left and right speakers out more. The same goes for the rears as they are spaced far apart but at different heights because on is resting on a desk and the other is resting on a hardcover book on top of a bed. I am not an audiophile and I would rather not spend a lot of money if I don't have to. What do you think, is it time to upgrade?
