Need receiver recommendations

This denon I like as well.. With Denon, think get alittle better build quality but less features.. if buy new you get a better warranty but you pay more.. so all depends on what you want and what you are willing to spend.

First things first, as I'm sure you know, rocking out in the basement will let everybody upstairs know you're home. That said, working with your budget, I'm a Denon/Marantz kind-a-guy so that's where my recommendations go. Finished or unfinished, basements have their acoustical problems and getting a system that includes a program like Audyssey is a good idea to help tune your speakers to both your listening position and the basement listening environment; best bang-for-buck sound quality with what you have happening.

Based on your above comments, a 5.1 system will do your basement listening experience just fine. The more gear you add, the more expensive the plan becomes and going with a 5.1, in a basement, is a good thing. The Denon AVR1713 will do you fine and is one of the latest and greatest and meets your budgetary constraints as you can have one delivered for about $400.00. If you just have to have 7.1, check out the price on last year's Denon AVR1912.

If you're just in it for a secondary listening receiver, then one doesn't need the latest and greatest. Price wise, you might consider the Marantz NR1403, not as sexy (full featured) as the other suggestions but no doubt, in your basement, a unit like the NR1403 will get you where you want to go.

A caveat, all recommendations are based on your above comments and stating the obvious, if you want more, you'll be hitting the hip a whole lot harder. To get the best price, do some phone shopping and let the phone agent know you're phone shopping for the best, included shipping, price. Hope the above helps.

Your best option in that price range would be the Denon 2112CI (7.1, Audyssey MultEQ XT) from last year on clearance now. Give Electronics Expo or AV Science sales a call for their best price.

It's all about money and how much you're willing to part with to get the features you want-need.

If you want to future proof your system, I'd recommend something outside your stated budget of under $500.00 such as the Denon AVR2313CI or a Marantz SR5007. If you want to save a few bucks, last years Denon AVR2312CI or as recommended by another, the Denon AVR2112CI. You might consider last years offering by Marantz, the SR5006. In the simple, at this level, they're all good.

A 7.1 AVR can be run with as little as 2.0 speakers to 7.1 to include 5.1. When you're ready to expand to 7.1, simply add the additional 2 speakers, typically either Surr Back, Front Height, or Front Wide.

At this price point, Pioneer and Onkyo will offer more features, while the Denon models will provide better audio fidelity as the Pioneer and Onkyo models cannot EQ the subwoofer, however, there are still lots of 1021/1121 owner's who are thrilled with their purchase so choose the brand/model that best meets your feature/input/output requirements.

I'm a Denon/Marantz kinda guy but I encourage one to go with what they feel most comfortable with. If you're an Onkyo kinda guy and Onkyo makes you all warm and fuzzy inside, I'd encourage going with your Onkyo choice. What price peace of mind?
