It's waterproof, so is the GW66. Sony is going all out with the projector feature on their cams. I would have never thought they would have added a projector to this form factor.

The lens starts at 29.8mm, which is too narrow at the wide end for me. Shame.

To capture the full spectacle of expansive landscapes or group shots, you may also use the
optional VCL-HGE08G Wide End Conversion Lens. The 23.8mm wide angle lens allows for
easy shooting of extra-wide scenes without moving the camcorder from side to side, and
increases the magnification ratio of 0.8x to 0.9x when used underwater. The lens will definitely
be handy for keeping your subjects in frame, and will help maximise each shot in every scene.

Good find! Works under water too.

Good find - thanks!

However I bet the resolution and sharpness may be reduced by additional glass - I believe this was the case for all other wide end converters in the past. Not too mention bigger size, and no automatic lens cover (though I do not know if the camera itself has one).

I have a Panasonic version of a wide angle adapter for my SDT750 (like a TM900, but with a 3D lens). I don't have a link to a sample, but have not noticed any degradation of picture quality. It works well for tight situations. I bought it after trying to video a shrimping trip in a small boat. I couldn't get back far enough without trying to walk on water. Another place it works well is at family gatherings, like birthdays, were the house or room is small and there are too many people.

There were much cheaper choices when I bought it. I suspect the cheap choices could have picture quality degradation and may lead to a generally poor reputation for "adapters". My guess is that Sony would make a pretty good one.

I wouldn't bet on the Sony product being too high end. I bought a telephoto lens for my SR11, and while it does a good job, it begins to show the outer ring in the picture much too soon as one zooms back. It is not near as good in that respect as other high quality lenses.
