Help with htib and ohms

I have an onkyo htr-540 receiver. From what I can tell it is rated for 8 ohms. I found my old speakers from an old htib I used to own- the RCA rt2500. The back of the speakers say 6 ohms. Basically want to know if I'll break something or set a fire if I use them together. My logitech surround system died on my PC so gonna replace it with the above if it will work vs buying all new stuff. Thanks guys.

Also I should state the back of the receiver states "caution: speaker impedance 8-16ohms / speaker" thanks

Onkyo HTIB receivers will work with 6 ohms speakers. Onkyo usually post power ratings with for 6ohm and 8ohms.

I'm sure your RCA speakers will be fine.

The instruction book also mentions 8 as well. Confident it will not be a problem? I'm a noon when it comes to this and don't want to overheat or burn anything up....especially my house! Lol

Well, the extent of the 'problem' also depends on the sensitivity of your speakers. The higher the sensitivity, the less of a problem this lower impedance is going to be. But the rule of thumb is: just don't play at high volumes, especially not for longer periods of time.

Also, the amp has circuitry that will prevent it from overloading and thus setting firing to anything even if you should cross the threshold. It definitely won't be good for your amp though if the overload protection is engaged.

You should be okay as long as the volume isn't excessive. I wouldn't hook 4 or 3ohm speakers up to it, but 6 should be okay.
