Setup Question: Pioneer VSX-72TXV with only 2 HDMI Inputs

I'm finally making the jump from a Soundbar setup to a full surround setup in a new house. My receiver is the Pioneer VSX-72TXV (Vann's link), and I got a full set of Pioneer speakers to go with it. (2 FS51s, 2 BS21s, an Energy 10.3 sub, and the Pioneer center channel)

The problem is that this receiver (which is a hand-me-down from my brother) only has 2 HDMI inputs. I have 3 components that I want going through HDMI with surround sound. My cable/dish box, a Boxee Box media streamer that I use to stream my collection of ripped DVDs, and my PS3 which I use for Blu Rays AND 3D Blu Rays, as I have a Sony HX800 3DTV.

So what should I do to attack the setup? My initial thought is this: hook the cable/sat box and Boxee Box to the two HDMI ins, then use the HDMI out to my TV. Then hook the PS3 HDMI directly to the TV, and use the digital audio out from the PS3 to the receiver.

Is that a good approach, or is there another method using the TV perhaps? Just plug all HDMI inputs into the TV, then use the digital out from the TV to the receiver?

I'm new at setting up audio, so any advice would be appreciated!

I should add my setup is only 5.1, so I have no intention or need for 7.1 setups or HD audio like Dolby TrueHD.

outboard HDMI Switch?

I thought about an HDMI switch, but I didn't know if they were recommended or not. Do they dirty up the signal or anything like that?

Are they all perfect? No!

Do they affect sound or video quality? Those are digital so they generally are either perfectly clean or do not work at all.

So what can get hurt? What can get hurt are things like the network path and the audio return channel, which you may not care about. Or you might..

Get one from a place with good prices and a fairly liberal return policy like Blue Jeans Cable.

Note that some sound bars have a HDMI switch built in.

If the receiver is old enough to only have 2 HDMI inputs, it's probably old enough to not play nice with 3D content. You're probably best off doing exactly as you described and running the PS3 directly to the display. I'd recommend a decent universal remote with all the input switching you're going to have to do.

I do already have a Harmony 650 I've been using for my component switching purposes, so that isn't an issue.
