Wow. Panny releasing a DLP. The article mentions classrooms. Hopefully HT versions won't be far behind.

It's not the same Chip (20 mm against 16,5 mm)

Here's a mini-review/summary of reflective LCD tech for the Epson RH4000/2000.

Oops. Looks like old info. I'll delete if needed.

I just noticed that the HD87 has been removed from the overview on Optomaeurope site - it is however still accessible via the HD83 and then the sidebar listing you get after viewing a product.... hmm... a replacement at IFA?

No don't have any false hope about this. The new Optoma HC projectors will be there in 2013.

Here's a partial translation from the Acer news clip:

"With the K750 Acer presents the world's first 1080p projector with LED Laser hybrid technology, which allows an increase in the color saturation by 55 percent with very high energy efficiency. Compared to the traditional high-pressure mercury lamps, the LED laser hybrid technology a much longer lamp life of up to 20,000 hours and a wider color gamut for more saturated colors. While meeting the high contrast ratio of up to 100,000:1 and a brightness of 1,500 ANSI lumens even the expectations of demanding users in the business and consumer markets. The new Acer K750 is available from September at a recommended retail price (including VAT) of 2.499, - Euro available in stores".

20K bulb hours, 100K contrast ratio and 1500 lumens sounds enticing, but question is if these figures are using a dynamic iris and what is the calibrated lumens? Extra color saturation won't help compared to a bulb projector as movies only need REC709 color space which bulbs can do already.

More détails here about the new panasonic projector :

And using more, and by that I mean a wider color space, is just plain wrong. But the more is marketing and everything is about marketing, more is better usually. Let's just see what lumens we actually get at D65.

And the Acer Hybrid is now available according to today's AV Magazine email.

@Mark if done right using a wider colourspace is a great plus. Lossless remapping is no issue with a wider colourspace.

I wonder if they tweaked the blacks too.

Is it not more likely that they kept the blacks as the current model and then increased the brightness in order to achieve the higher rating???

Hi Kraine,
Will the new Panny 8000 support an anamophic lens, in other words will it do a vertical stretch like the JVC and Sony? They talk so much about their lens memory dumbing down my prefered way of viewing scope content with zooming (no offense meant to zooming fans) but I think this may be the only missing link in the Panny 2D/3D projectors in my opinion. This is why i have been a JVC/Sony fan for years, but I am tired of JVC's subpar 3D performance and I hear a lot of great things about the 3D with the Sony/Panny as of last year.

Kraine -

Bonjour - I know the official first day of IFA is this coming Friday (31 August) and perhaps some manufacturers may have press conferences or press releases coming out a day or two earlier. Do you expect to post news from IFA (and pre-IFA press info) to this thread or perhaps can we expect to find the lastest IFA related info on the Cinetson.org web site? I find the IFA reports very useful for getting prepared to attend CEDIA just a few days later.

Hi Ron, I'll arrive in Berlin tomorrow afternoon and as soon I'll get the infos about all the new projectors I 'll put them online. But I can already told that for some of them I'm under NDA until the 31.

NDA for projectors? Its not like its some super secret classified information. I don't understand whats the big deal if someone can spill the beans early. Anyway, a few more days of waiting...

Lossless remapping of what??? Remapping a wider color space down to REC 709 or remapping REC 709 content to a wider color space? If the former, then there is no use for such a feature, and if the latter, then there is no consumer source material available (that I am aware of) that utilizes a color space larger than REC 709....other than maybe some games. And remapping REC 709 to a wider color space would be a guessing game at best, as there is no way to know what "value" a certain color coordinate should be mapped to outside of REC 709.

Or maybe I am misunderstanding your point completely....confused.gif

It was even worse in 2010: JVC showed its brand new models at IFA (in late August/early September) by invitation only and under an embargo which it lifted only on the opening day of CEDIA (which that year was late September).

At least this year both fairs come pretty close together.

I think they did that last year as well. Does it really matter that much when the pjs aren't available for another three months?

I am violating two NDAs by even making this post on the 28th. smile.gif

Well then, you should have no issues with spilling the beans on at least two manufacturer's plans. I promise to sneak a few blurays to you while in the big house.

I hope someone posts (on this thread) a summary of both of the above press events and links to any associated press releases. I'll be on the road this morning and will not be able to watch the streaming video feeds.
