Best Buy's Upgrade Program 7/15/12 - 7/21/12

Got great deals on a couple of new releases, with my $5 off a piece, on these 3 movies.

Coma - $4.99
Altered States - $4.99
Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol - $4.99

They didn't have "Outland" in stock, but if they did it would have been $9.99 As they are selling it for $14.99 according to there websight.

For those interested in the Brian De Palma "BLOWOUT" blu-ray, Best Buy matched the 50% off sale by Barnes and Noble criterion collection. Best Buy was selling blu-ray for $29.99, but sold it to me for $14.99.

Another good deal, they had several copies of "The Faculty" in there bargain bin for $5.99. Which surprised me. I didn't think that was out until next week. Back of the blu-ray says released through Echo Bridge Home Entertainment, dated 2012.

Do you know if this is the Best Buy exclusive limited edition (with extra bonus features), or the general release version? Thanks again!

I just got home with mine. It's the standard addition with bluray, dvd and digital copy. The BB exclusive doesn't count. Made that mistake at the checkout counter.

I took in 5 dvds and got 5 coupons. Ended up with:

Ghost protocol for $5
Blade 2 for $5
Kung Fu Panda 2 3D bluray-dvd-dig copy for $15
The Final Destination 3D bluray for $15
Monsters vs Aliens 3D bluray for $15

My haul for today. Only have a couple more that I am considering, in particular the new edition of Total Recall when it comes out appears that it will be $5 with the promotion. And perhaps any others each week that drop down to $9.99

1st Batch
MI4
Babe
Parenthood
Blade (w/ $5 TDKR Movie Cash)
Blade Trinity (w/ $5 TDKR Movie Cash)

2nd Batch
Sherlock Holmes (w/ $5 TDKR Movie Cash)
Blade 2
Gremlins 2
Dazed and Confused
Altered States

Got Ghost Protocol for $4.99 and The Walking Dead 1st Season for $14.99 but I was most excited about getting the 4 Disc Planet Earth Complete Series narrated by David Attenborough on Blu-ray for $14.99.
I could have easily went for quite a few more $5 titles, but I got Inception, Superman: The Movie and The Matrix for $5 each and they all had the $5 TDKR Movie Cash. I had originally planned on upgrading the Blade Trilogy, but decided to go with movies I enjoy more. I'll probably try to get a few more before the sale ends. I am also thinking about upgrading Total Recall when that new edition shows up.

Battlestar Galactica seasons are $19.99 each at Best Buy this week so $14.99 each after trade in. I picked up all 5. Also got Weeds Season Seven for $14.99 after trade in.
Human Planet is also $19.99 as well now, so only $15 with coupon, very happy about getting that today. Picked up Stand by Me as well for $5.
Also can the op or a mod please update the thread title, this sale is going on until 8/11.

From Slickdeals today:
Quote:
Firefly: The Complete Series (Blu-ray) $19.99 with free shipping

Best Buy

Been a while since it was this low. Not the lowest, but still good for those who don't have this yet.

Get an extra $5 off with DVD Trade-In, and your net cost most likely ends up breaking down like:
$19.99 + tax minus $5 out the door... so probably ~$16 for most smile.gif

Is Firefly sale for today only?

Short answer: I don't know.

If I'm not mistaken, however, most sale price periods are usually from Sunday to Saturday on a given week... for advertised sale pricing, that is (i.e. BB weekly ad flyer found in newspapers and front of the stores), and I do not know if the Firefly Blu-ray appeared in this week's ad. I just saw a post on Slickdeals.

I will be visiting my local store within this week to trade in some DVDs, though. When I do, I'll check the sale tag and see for sure when the $19.99 sale price for Firefly is subject to change. Someone may beat me to the punch, so you may not have to wait that long smile.gif
post #12 of 49
Thanks, I was planning to go tomorrow, but got the impression from looking at BB's website that it was a daily deal since I searched for it on the DD page, so not sure if I need to order it on-line tonight. I wish I knew what gives with the DD daily email. I've signed up several times using the same email addy since I learned about it from this thread earlier this year, but have yet to receive a single one!

Anyway, I've learned the hard way not to bother asking such Qs at the local store as invariably I get the answer I want to hear both over the phone and even in the store, only to be told otherwise at either the checkout or at the customer service desk WRT the BD upgrade sale. Basically, they tried to get my bag full of DVDs for nothing at the last upgrade sale.

Firefly is actually in NEXT week's ad as being on sale at $19.99, so it already being priced at that price ahead of time it would appear.
The ad says the promotion goes through 8/11 as a previous poster listed, but the coupons I got indicated they expired 7/21, so I wouldn't wait if I were you.

They didn't have the Planet Earth in stock so I'm going to check another store...for net of $15, that's a good deal. In addition to getting 5 BDs for $25, I got 3 vouchers for the $5 movie cash to see new Batman in theatre...

Looks like I got lucky on Ghost Protocol, It's the best buy exclusive. Didn't realize there was a different version. BTW, when I brought in the dvd to trade, they didn't realize the trade up program was active. They thought it was for cell phone upgrade only. Which meant you can inquire about a cell phone upgrade and they would give you the $5 coupon. If you look on page 12 in the ad, it says "you do not need to be eligible for a phone upgrade in order to receive $5 coupon.
The coupons I got this week clearly expire on 8/11... so the title of this thread should probably be updated.
Hmmm....I suspect there are two promotions/coupons they are giving out: one for the cell phone upgrade, and then the DVD upgrade. Now that you mention it, my coupons which did expire this week, did reference cell phones--even though I got them by trading in the DVDs. I didn't pay that close attention to it.
I only had my coupons in hand for a few minutes, but I clearly remember the 8/11 expiration date on them. And yeah, when I went up to customer service with my DVD's the first girl (who was admittedly new, so I'm not really blaming her) had no idea what the program was, and the guy she called over to help asked me who my cell phone provider was. I had seen something in the ad about the cell phone upgrade thing, but didn't think much about it, so it took me a second to figure out what that had to do with anything. It took a couple of minutes for them to understand what I wanted. I've noticed that Best Buy doesn't seem to train or even warn their employees when these things roll around, and I always know more about it than they do. rolleyes.gif

Well they handed me a coupon for an extra dvd that I traded in Sunday at Best Buy, that clearly says offer valid 7/15/12 - 7/21/12. So I have till this Saturday to take advantage of the $5 off. I wish now that I had kept my dvd, to trade in at a later date. Didn't catch the date until after I got home.....naturally.
Interesting. I got all of my coupons from DVD trade-ins... and they all have the 8/11 date. It's also been mentioned in next week's early-released ad too.

That sure is weird if the ones they are giving away for the cell-phone upgrade check are only good this week. Even worse if they give those out to people exchanging DVDs!

OK, went Tues. and got the [5] Battlestar Galactica seasons, Firefly @ $14.99/ea. + MI4 @ $4.99. Seems that Firefly is on-line @ $19.99 and since they had [1] copy in store, they price matched it. Unfortunately, there were some others I wanted and they showed as having in stock, but after over an hour of two of us searching, couldn't find any of them, so asked them to call me if they either found them or got more in.

In the meantime, I went on-line and found some others on sale and/or $9.99, so went back yesterday and got The Dark Knight Steelcase, Sucker Punch, The Fifth Element, Das Boot @ $4.99 + Ben Hur 50th Ann. @ $7.99, but the rest they no longer carried in store and they still couldn't find The Green Hornet, so asked for a rain check, which turned out to be a $5 'Upgrade & Save' ticket and a printout showing they had received [6] DVDs to my [5] purchases and would call me when it was available.

This morning they called to tell me my Green Hornet on-line order had arrived and in the course of the conversation said it wasn't eligible for the DVD discount! I explained what happened yesterday, the paperwork I and that I had not authorized any special order nor would I honor it unless the taxed price was $4.99 after the DVD credit was applied. After awhile on hold, it was agreed to and would be waiting for me at the customer service desk. We'll see...............

I asked how long it would be available since I'm not sure when I can get over that way again and she said the sale ran through the end of August or whenever the U&S tickets ran out, which best she could tell would be in a week or two; so you'll hold it for me/honor the ticket end of Aug.? Uh, no when the tickets run out............. [PS: I now see the ticket lists 7.15.12 - 8.11.12]

Oh well, got what is for now some great deals, got way more for old DVDs than at yard sales, learned they price matched themselves like Wal-Mart and at least this store has some unlisted discounts on slow moving and/or to be discontinued products, but along the way it always seems to include hassle and attempts to pad the bill a bit at this store to the point where at the last U&S sale I went two days and wound up getting none due to their 'bait n' switch' sales tactics [for lack of a more apt description].

There should only be four seasons of BSG. Season 4.5 is included in the Season 4 release, so you'll want to return that one. Just fyi...
Good to know, thanks! Having seen only the miniseries when it first aired, I only looked at the season 1 box to see if it was included.

In looking up season 4, 4.5 on Amazon plus what’s listed on the boxes, I can’t tell if there’s anything of real interest on 4.5 that’s not on 4. Since Razor was on S4 I kind of assumed The Plan would be on 4.5, but apparently not.

Also. I see there’s a season 2.5, but couldn’t find whether or not the s2 BD had all the episodes.

Can you [or anyone else] clear these up for me?

TIA,

GM

The Season 4.5 set was released before any of the others. It was made redundant by the Season 4 release, which has both parts of Season 4 and Razor. Season 2.5 is included on the Season 2 release. There should only be four sets you have to buy - 1 through 4. The Plan is a separate release.

*Update*
Good news for folks who wanted the BB exclusive version smile.gif
Today (Sun. 7/22) Best Buy lowered the price of their MI:GP Best Buy Limited Edition 3-Disc Blu Ray to $9.99, so the price now comes down to $4.99 after Upgrade & Save coupon.

TIA,

I presume you are referring to "Mission: Impossible, Ghost Protocol", which is available in 2 different combo packs at Best Buy, the standard issue and the limited edition.

The "standard issue" combo pack has 2 discs, the movie on Blu-ray (with limited bonus features) + DVD & Digital Copy

The "limited edition" combo pack has 3 discs, the movie on Blu-ray, a 2nd Blu-ray with extra special bonus features (all bonus features, including the features of the "standard issue" version) are all ported over to the 2nd Blu-ray disc), + DVD & Digital copy.

On the spine of the Blu-ray case (near the bottom), you can tell which you have, as one version says "2-disc set", and the other says "3-disc set". The cover art is different for each version as well.
Yes, thanks for the clarification. Hope my store adds it, so I can swap out the 2 disc set @ $4.99 as there were no other MI4 BD choices last week to choose from, only a DVD.
