(He has been really tied up and hasn't had time to think let alone answer me bugging him about the meet - he's building a house and today was the day he needed my help moving the heavy stuff to the new house. However, I see an FV15HP is now on the list that you guys are excited about (I'm really curious too smile.gif ). Do you still need my E15 then?

No problem and no real rush, I'm sure you will get it figured it in the coming weeks. And I think it would be really cool to compare the E15 and FV15HP back to back!

OK - for the rest of you, I've got some info on my setup/room:

Personally, I would like to hear the E15, but I understand circumstances might make that difficult.

Unless I'm misreading your post though it almost sounds like you consider your attendance contingent on bringing the E15. If so, please dispel that notion; I'm fairly confident in saying you wouldn't be considered unwelcome were you not to show up with a sub. If you can bring it great, if you can't then no problem, but don't feel as though it's mandatory.

I think we can just use one of the sine sweeps and get the picture. Do you guys want the 10-100hz sweep with voiceover or the 100hz to 20hz sweep?

With the cast of characters we'll have I'd vote for 10Hz. Some of them will be solid into the teens, so we should probably test accordingly.

I'd agree, many in the lineup should have usable extension below 20hz so might as well extend the range down there.

My Caps will likely be running a 19hz HPF so I'll probably skip that part, LOL. That is pretty impressive though. What size is your room?

Side note - I picked up an Energy S10.3 to play with this weekend. It's definitely too small to play with the rest of this group, but I'm going to set it up in my gym or workshop in case anyone wants to listen to it.

Is that whole area open? Wow! Got to be some serious cubic footage. tongue.gif
post #253 of 605
Yes the entire area is open, I didn't draw the upstairs or any room behind a closed door....

The odd geometry actually works good for one reason: I get reflections for lots of different wavelengths. Meaning I am at the focal point for lots of low-end waves.... makes my time EQ'ing easy and I get great db at low hz.

Andrew, You won't hurt the caps with the 19hz HPF. I think the music lineup - including the the sinewave should be fully auditioned on every sub.

What we did in 2011 KC meet was have a standardized one size fits all volume for the music section and then let the owners cut loose on the volume for the movies section. That seemed to work pretty good and let people hear both controlled listening environment that was standardized across all subs and then a no holds barred cut loose section with the movies to let the subs with the headroom shine a bit.

Oh I didn't mean it would hurt it, I just figured it would be so cut down there would be no point in listening to the <20hz section, but I guess that will go quickly anyway. I'm down with the owners having control of volume.

I wish there was a way for me to get my Infinity HPS-1000 up there to this meet.

It's a beasty too and would do well against most everything ethere except the top dogs like Seaton and JTR. It'd be fun to see how a big retail giant like Infinity can keep pace with many of the (less expensive, but highly touted) ID offerings.

I'd wager a paycheck on it. 15" bottom firing driver with 1000 watt plate amp and two passive 15" radiators on left and right. MSRP was expensive at $1800, but it is quite capable. I'm enjoying listening to it now. Had my pair of these things not grenaded I probably would have never found my way to this addiction. I've got one working again and a bit like the caps - it's in the realm of ridiculous (though the caps are still significantly stronger). SOOOO much more power than the sub I've been listening to the last couple weeks in the Jamo 650 sub. (which is also a good sub - but no where near as powerful in the realm of SPL). The Infinity seems to have a HPF at about 25ish hz programmed into the amp, but above that frequency it's all business.

Member Ryansboston said he may be able to bring his older PS3 which will play them, however my PS3 slim does not.

That would be cool, I've never really heard anything Yamaha. I thought the airline standard was one carry on and one subwoofer? tongue.gif

We will not be switching CD's or media at all... it would take too much time. If you want to hear it, the media needs to get to me in a lossless format....

My laptop will be the media source, At the end of the day if we want to listen to something not prepared beforehand I can put it in. My laptop has a bluray player..... should be good for everything.

What time of connection are we planning on using for the laptop, HDMI? Just want to make sure I'm fully prepared.

Yes it has HDMI output.

I will be bringing my entire audio setup, so if something doesn't work I can supply it.
Also gorilla83, if you would like me to come over the day before and get some stuff nailed down I can do that.

That would actually be awesome to do a small dry run on Friday night. If you're close by and you wouldn't mind, that would be great. It's also nice to have backup equipment as well. I know Jonathan (Archaea) may also be in town that night to help set up.

I'm probably going to take a half day from work on the 19th so I can get the house in order and cleaned.

I agree with these sentiments.. we have a ton of subs to listen to considering it isn't a two day event... So thanks to Rush for consolidating the audio clips so we don't have to do any manual switching...

I am bringing my PS3 which does plays SACDs and DVD-A, and I was thinking this would be set up in the secondary demo area where I will set up my A5s... Andrew also mentioned comparing his Polk Monitor 70s. Anybody else bringing speakers? I would love to hear any speakers in the $500-2k range compared to the Arx A5s.. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the A5s will more than hold their own. Amazing value, great sound. I haven't written a full-blown review as I am still breaking them in but I am definitely impressed thus far...

My KRK 10-3's will be there. They are a part of my subwoofer setup so they will hopefully be tested as well....
They are flat to 30hz....

I actually sold the Polk setup recently, but I do have a few different Deftechs that we could use as well as my Magnepan MMGs. I'm hoping I can pick up a set of CHT SHO-10s prior to the event as well, but we'll see.

Cool! Looks a whole lot more complex than Winamp, haha.

Basically it is a real time spectrum analysis is what I meant to show. The program does a ton more than that..... but don't worry about it, just using one of the features for a nice presentation.
