Here is a down-mixed crappy mp3 version of what we will be playing.

http://sdrv.ms/V82b50

(warning, it is about 105 MB) about 46 minutes long
0:00 - 12:30 is all the music clips
12:31 - 46:13 is all the movie clips

It doesn't sound any where near as good as the uncompressed audio.

The music is exactly like we have heard before, same order, same clips.

The movie clips appear in reverse alphabetical order:

War of the Worlds
Underworld Awakening - Elevator Fall
Underworld Awakening - Elevator bombs
Tron - Light Cycle Race - (already cut down, needs additional shortening)
Transformers 3 - DSOTM
THX - Amazing Life
The Dark Knight - The Print
Star Trek - Ship Destroyed
Pulse - Server Room
Master and Commander
Lord of the Rings - Balrog
Live Free or Die Hard - Apt Scene (This is a long clip and needs to be cut down)
Kung Fu Panda - Skadoosh
John Mayer - Waiting on the World to Change
Iron Man - Jericho Missile
Inception - Just a Dream
Hulk - Cop Car Smash
How To Train Your Dragon
Flight of the Phoenix
Cloverfield - Statue of Liberty Head
Battle LA - Tunnel

if anyone wants to give the very rough sounding mp3 a listen and maybe comment on what they don't think deserves to be left in please do..... or comment without even listening is fine too. Otherwise we are going to have to make cuts without input from everyone attending as 46 minutes is too long.

The Music And Movies selection asks me for an ID and password, something I don't have, so I can't see what that one yields. The Music Rough Cut Ver2 selection is only a 29 meg MP3 though. Is that the one which is supposed to be 105 meg?

Oh yes, I am sorry it seems that if a file is too large microsoft wants you to login to any msn account to verify you are a real person. It is public so anyone who has an msn account can download it.

The extracted channels are bit perfect to the m2ts files. I demuxed using tsmuxer and extracted using eac3to both garentee the same quality that would be achieved playing back the original discs or the clips extracted from them.

Hi Rush,

I appreciate your knowledge and skill in being able to pull things out this way, but I'm concerned that it opens up too many variables for those listening or following along online. Those who cannot attend will be following along and hanging on every statement and detail. It is common and you can expect readers to place way more weight than is warranted on observations and statements from one specific system and setup. In not leaving the decoding and level setting to a widely used receiver, we open up a potential for all sorts of confusion and complaints from those bringing subwoofers or who have something similar at home if things sound different in Gorilla83's system.

The ultimate litmus test is playing a scene from the PC on Gorilla83's system, and then play the same thing from the original BluRay. They should sound identical; for any of the formats being used.

IMO, sound should be coming in over HDMI in the format most playback at home, be it DTS-MA, DD-TrueHD, etc., etc. Just the act of setting a playlist with precisely clipped scenes which allows for a quick run through of many formats and scenes is hugely valuable in making it remotely possible to listen to all the subwoofers on Saturday, and is a great service to us all.

I aim to pacify these concerns on the friday dry run. We can verify that it sounds exactly the same.

In simple terms what I did was pull out the sound channels using arcsoft total media decoders (dts-hd) to wav files, which are lossless.
Then I am playing them back all stitched together to facilitate no switching of media and visualization of the audio via spectrographs.

Depending on the results on friday night, where we will be doing final clip selection, I can ditch the playback solution I have been talking about and fallback to just the clips. I am completely fine with that if it is judged to be affecting what we hear.

I'm thinking the clip selection will probably need to be cut down to 25-30 minutes per sub. We're looking at least 11 sub setups in the following list, assuming we're going to leave the Epik's upstairs for some music listening. The passive setups (LMS, Daytons and Captivators) will likely take a bit longer to set up and configure. Add in time to get set up and running, breaks, lunch, and we're in for a LONG day so we'll need to drastically cut down on the list.

JTR Captivator Passive Pair / Crown XLS5000
Seaton submersive hp / Seaton submersive F2
2x LMS5400 / LG clone and/or iNuke6000 amp
Dual PSA XV15's
DIY Dayton 15's
Rythmik Fv15hp
Rythmik E15
Definitive Supercube Reference
Hsu ULS-15
PSA XS-15
SVS 20-39 PCi

Proposed schedule:
9:30-12:30 - Setup, demo 3-4 subs
12:30 - Lunch
1:00 - Demo 3-4 subs
4:00 - Break to listen to some loudspeakers upstairs
5:30-9:30? - Finish demo with remaining subs

Thoughts? This is assuming of course the clip list is cut down to 25-30 minutes and we'll need 20-30 minutes for moving, setup, measurements, etc.

Last I heard I believe Arthur (spyboy) was arriving a bit later, so we may have to move the SVS out a few positions. Also, I believe the Daytons are coming in duals, so we should probably group them with the others accordingly.

TWO DAYS until dry run and THREE DAYS to the event!!! biggrin.gif

Basically, I just want to know if the Caps are going to be at the end or near the end of the day. If it's at the end of the day, and we are predicting that it will go until almost 9:00 pm, then I will probably miss that demo. I am not saying to rearrange everything just for me. I am just saying that I might not be there for some of the big guns if they are going to be done later.

I don't think I'm making down their quite that early, so the XS15 will have to be later then that. On the original list it was about 5th or 6th I believe.

Id really like to hear the epik empire pair in the mix as well. hopefully...

25-30 minute sub auditions. first sub starts sharp at 9:30am

5 minutes to swap subs. 5 minutes to apply simple analog eq with mic2200 and level match using avr test tone. omnimic fr graphs showing realtime on the projector for all to see as we adjust and capture fr....no secret sauce. people can stay in the room or jump to kitchen if they need. frequencies below 70hz or 80hz dont change much based on peoples movement in the room. so 80hz is as good a crossover as any.

12 subs...45 minutes per sub. eq cant take 30 minutes per sub with this many subs. if it does there isnt much hope. we can try minidsp and mic2200 and dcx2496 and see which is fastest or see if there is much difference on friday night.

eq efforts need be minimal. placement of subs should be identical.

Regarding the two scenes above I felt there were a few other scenes that provided more *uh-em* "bang for the scene" (if that makes sense). I'm not sure of the actual time stamps in the movie, but here are the scenes I am referring too.

Hulk - Pulse Cannon (one of my favorites)
Cloverfield - Military Engage Monster on street (right before they go into the subway)

Not sure if it's too late in the game, but I believe both of the above scenes are shorter in duration and waaay more intense.

It seems like this will be the first time a bunch of fellow members will get to hear the LMS. BETTER NOT MESS IT UP MAN! biggrin.gif

Ugh...I've been feeling the pressure for sure.

My boxes suck so bad I'm actually headed to HD right now to pick up some MDF to try to rebuild before the meet...

Wish me luck.

Wow, that is dedication, box rebuild 3 days before the meet. I've been planning out the optimal low slow smoke timing for this 18 pounds of pork shoulder so it comes off, rests, and is finished pulling right before I hop in the car. My Job's not too hard really. You are the man.

Excited to hear that LMS (pressure building :-)

It's kewl to see everyone pitching in, this is going to be epic. Rush has put it a ton of time prepping the content I'm sure, thanks for that, the Gorilla is doing a bunch, super thanks to the host, the beers, the subs....geeze I'm so fired up!!!!!

I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it (yeah I said it)

popalock, you married? If so, your wife must be thinking about having you committed!

You better get this cabinet right at least. That's all I can say....

It would suck to really crank her up at the meet only to have one side of the box fall off..... ha ha..... kidding.

We are going to try our best to start right at 9:30 sharp. There is no telling what can or will come up during the day, but we did plan on demo'ing in ascending order according to approximate price/SPL capability which will put the LMS, Caps, and submersives later in the day. If we stick to schedule strictly, hopefully they will come at a reasonable time.

Is this enough time for your wood glue and silicon seals to cure? 48 hours on the glue right for maximum strength?

Rush may not have been kidding with his box exploding comment. tongue.gif

I'm not sure what your old boxes look like (is it a cosmetic issue you are worried about?) - but I'm sure the group would take the sound of ugly instead of broke. smile.gif

Lol… Killing me man. I guess I totally deserve it because I was always hounding you’re a$$ to get your second pair of up and running as well… Don’t make me revive your thread to get everyone riled up about the next pair you are thinking about getting!

I'm building one new box for the meet. So you guys will get to see one in my current wooly mammoth un-braced disgrace of a box (4.2cuft) and the other one in the new fully braced mdf box (2.1cuft). You guys will see what I am talking about, and why I wanted to build a new box, when you see the un-braced box rocking violently like it is trying to tip over on its face... The current boxes work, I just feel like the lack of rigidity is taking away from its performance. If the new box blows up, at least we will have one LMS to play with…

Plus this just lights a fire under me to get the boxes built sooner than later... Guess I have to thank you guys for the motivation.

Just a thought - wouldn't it be easier/faster to modify your current box with bracing, etc rather than start from scratch?

I love DIY projects and will for sure be during my own after the meet. Looking forward to discussing ideas with you guys on Saturday!

Easy? What...what is that? =)

Yeah, I've thought about it. But with all of the "lesson's learned" I've taken away from my last build, in addition to all of the other tools I've picked up to help with efficiency, I'm actually looking forward to see how easy it's going to be for me to throw this box together.

I mean, It's going to be a raw box without any type of finishing so I won’t worry too much about it getting dinged up or anything. My only concern at the moment is the box being more than I can handle. To put things in perspective, edogg's boxes are comparable in exterior dimension, but each cabinet (with driver installed) weighs about 200lbs. My current birch boxes (with driver installed) weigh about 110lbs each.

As for the weight - I know BB weighs quite a bit less than MDF inch for inch, so that could be part of the reason. To put it into perspective, I believe my Caps weigh around ~160lbs each finished - and that's in a (relatively) massive ported box around 8CF.

If you can get them loaded into the Caddy, we will easily be able to help you move them around once you arrive.
