english users review of med1000x3d from their forums

http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,8831.0.html

about the dutch review they used firmware v 1.01 and 1.02 heres what they said in their forums.

"Here is the first published review on X3
Comment from Mede8er - The BDMV playback problem on some BDMV files as mentioned in the review has been fixed in V1.0.3 that is in Beta test at the moment - 'Auto Frame Rate' functionality is also in V1.0.3 so not mentioned in this review"

Some comments from Mede8er

As already stated on the Mede8er forum -

We had picked up that with V1 and V1.0.2 that some BDMV's would play with sound and no picture. This problem was addresses and fixed and is currently in Beta test in V1.0.3

Re the Dutch review - We did get feedback about a particular issue on one DVD and it seems that this is a non standard DVD (re authored) with some BD based menu. We requested a copy for test purposes but never received this. We expect that that this is also fixed in V1.0.3 as we applied many BD related patches to the firmware that fixed Play and BD Menu related issues. We should complete the BD Playlist menu option within today and then that will go into Beta test. We are hoping that V1.0.3 will be completed by 17 August and then some Beta test period. I think we will possibly make V1.0.3 an open Beta as we want as much feedback as possible.

I see some talk about the Auto Frame rate - We already implemented this and its working well for 24hz(23.976) 25fps and 30fps (29.97) content and I think we are the first Realtek player to have this as it not available standard within the SDK and we wrote this code ourselves.

thank for the info.
can you advance how many units will be available setember 1st in europe and usa, 1000, 2000, +10.000

looks like the dealers aren't getting any pre-orders or price in advance, also they will be available in amazon.com and amazon.co.uk, since med8er selling a few units in that channel.

med8er is playing the secrecy selling game like apple in their latest player... but the lack os specialized reviews are evident 20 days from launch not ??? since the realtek 1186 is well none since last year and this player is out to testers from 17 july 2012 theres not much to hide on what should do, or can't do ....

regards.

Thanks for the update. I used to own a MED500X2, and it was an excellent unit. The only thing I didn't like at all was the jukebox. It always gave me the wrong information, and it was difficult to edit. Other than that the mede8er was pretty solid. I am hoping the best for you guys wit the 1186 chip.

Gus, Mede8er's Y2M jukebox is one of the best things about it. It makes YAMJ so easy to use, and visually managing the generated jukebox a pleasure. I have over 1,300 movies, with several not even on IMDb, and I'm getting 100% identification, with proper metadata. How?... via Ember and NFO's for every movie. You can also edit the individual XML files in Y2M's output folder to get the resulting about.jpg moviesheet to show exactly the info. you want. My only wish is for Y2M to support TV shows. You need to use ThumbGen for that and it's clunky.

Y2M was okay when I used it. I just had too many wrong scrapped media. I didn't know about Ember or how to use NFO files when I was using the Mede8er. So, I pretty much gave up on it and sold it, which is something that I regret now lol. That and not being able to do TV Shows too. ThumbGen is too slow.

Y2M uses YAMJ to do the scraping, so you would need to fault YAMJ for incorrect scraping. In any case, NFO's make all the difference no matter which jukebox you use. You'll find Ember here. Just let it scan your movie share and fix any incorrect items before running Y2M. I can share my Ember settings if you would like, but off the top of my head, you need to check (movie).jpg, (folder).jpg, fanart.jpg, (movie).fanart.jpg, and finally (movie).nfo. This will scrape the necessary metadata, posters and fanart for not only Y2M/YAMJ, but also XBMC and other jukeboxes.

Edit: Some NFO resources here, targeted for Boxee Box, but you can modify for platforms you want to use. In my case, I use Ember to scrape/manage jukeboxes for Boxee, XBMC and Y2M/YAMJ. Works well.

Not really sure what you mean by this. Qty of units to each region is confidential information. Stock to USA dealer will be shipped from factory on 13 Aug. The European release is 1 Sept as stated all over the Internet. I have no control over European distribution and the question about Pre Order status. We are not hiding anything and I dont know what makes you think that. More reviews will be coming including one from Damian who was sent a X3 sample ex SA last week. We will answer any reasonable question about X3 on our own forum or this forum for that matter.

I will by one for sure. For PQ on a good projector you will of course not say of your own product is not stands up to high end players like Oppo. But honestly is the gap in PQ important?
I'm using Mede8er's 450X2 with a 119" projection screen and PQ is as good as my PCH or PS3. Don't have an Oppo BDP93 anymore, but I recall its PQ being incrementally better. I'd fail an A/B test if I didn't know which source was throwing up the same image. Where Oppo shines is video processing and build quality. It's aimed at audio/video perfectionists.

The 93 I had for a week, was very sharp and image depth was wonderful. But the PQ of the 95 was better. The 93, at least the European version, has video-noise i not expected for a player of this price. You can have 4 X 3 for that price, if PQ is indeed so good, that is all I am asking for. For music I will connect it to my Accuphase Dsp 67 cd player, which has a fantastic DAC, no Oppo can hold up against.

Can't wait to see the result, I get it as soon as i can lay hands upon it , here in France.

Brajesh,

Thanks for the Ember link, but i don't think I will be needing it anytime soon. I do use NFO's files only when I see YAMJ / Eversion can't get the correct information. This is one of the reason why I like Zappiti over other jukeboxes since you can edit and fix the issues prior to sending it to the Dune.

I am just excited that you have the frame rate issue resolved! If that is true I am all over this unit like white on rice!
WOuld love to give this unit a whirl!
Me too. After you and others focused on this, I started noticing frame skips while watching 3D BD-ISO's via my HiMedia HD900B. Now I sometimes watch without blinking waiting for them wink.gif. Thankfully, my Optoma HD33 projector seems to be doing a good job masking the issue, making it less noticeable through a whole movie. In any case, having proper 23.976 for 23.976 content will be a welcome fix.

That is with all flaws on any machine, and what you are sensible for. Once I saw the video noise in the Oppo 93, I couldn't live with it any more after tried a 95. Even my laptop does not have it, so I returned the Oppo

you had a defective 93 then. I have had both the 93 and 95 in my system at he same time and video playback was identical between the two.

Yes, that is what I hoped. What is strange htat all hte owners and testers on hte other side of the ocean say that. And that guy in Europe, France for that matter, all noticed that the 93 has more video-noise. When I returned it, I asked the seller to test it, and he said that there was nothing wrong with the unit. But he was not surprised, I found the 95 better. They were tested with the same cables, exactly the same settings. Jacko from homecinema-fr, who tested all the Oppo's, all the modified one's again confirmed that the 93 had more video-noise.

So maybe a problem, when the 93 crosses the ocean, and is used on different voltage? I don't know.

LOL

I not read Portugese, but then would it not be more logical for shipping costs and so on to wait a week longer, and then hope the French importer has one.

Only advantage would be, that the invoice can be made on my firm and I not pay vat

This looks like an interesting player. It's the first one that's interested me in awhile, anyway. Now that I have a real network I could think about ripping my 3D Blu Rays, and having a player that could support the real deal in 3D sounds enticing. But $200+ is a little steep for me currently. I'l have to wait and see if it has significant issues anyway. I'm fine going the disc route with my 3D Blu Rays right now.
