HVAC register placement... I'm scared to ask!

Is it a bad idea to place HVAC register(s) behind an AT screen? redface.gif

Bad. Very bad.

I have been wondering about that for a while now, I am guessing it puts movement into the screen?

Would you mind explaining why Dennis?

The list is long ... I'll give you two, or three ....

screen movement cannot be avoided;
your wonderfully expensive AT screen is now an air filter (wanna change or clean it once a month?)
could affect air flow, static pressure and increase A/C operational costs

I can't think of a good reason to do it! eek.gif

I bet some AT screen material would make a pretty good cleanable air filter for the furnace biggrin.gif. Listen to Denise!

Thanks for the laugh. Picturing in my head the $3,500 air filter. With all that surface area, you probably would not have to change it out but once a year. smile.gif

Fair enough, thanks.

Will your room accommodate a soffit? Generally, the ducts are plumbed into the soffits and the registers are in front of the screen to avoid the problems previously mentioned.

No, the room is already built and soffits were previously added but only for one drain pipe and some wiring. Looks like my only option is to run the feed's on the front of the right wall by the door and the returns on the rear of the same wall, not ideal I'm sure but it's my only option rolleyes.gif

If you can get a duct into the theater behind the screen wall then connect up a couple of flex lines and bring them into the room in the upper two front corners with black painted vents flush with the face of the screen wall. Run the flex inside the theater hidden by the screen wall. Just another idea.
