TX-NR818 or TX-NR3009?

I have a TX-SR805 and am in a position to upgrade.

I've had no issues with the 805 but would like more HDMI inputs without an outboard switch. I have examined the competition like the Denon 4311 and just seems Onkyo is a better bang for buck. I'd like to stay in and around the same approximate power output and a step up in Audyssey calibration

I'm open to suggestions or pro's and con's to what I'm looking at. I am 85% movies and 15% t.v.. Just a little music once and while.

I think either would suit your needs. How many subs do you have and how many speakers?

You are looking at about a $300 price difference minimum to go from 818 to 3009

Looks like the 818 is going to be the winner. Pricing on the 818 just makes it more attractive and I can use the $$$ saved for some other items I may want to add.

Hello,
I would absolutely go with the 3009. In addition to getting SubEQ HT which the 818 does not offer, the 3009 offers Multichannel Analog Inputs, a more powerful Amplifier Stage, and 2 more channels of amplification. Even if not running 9.2, you also have the option of using the BTL Feature to bridge your Front Speakers provided they are 8 Ohms and still be able to run a 7.2 HT. Also, the 3009 is THX Ultra2 Plus Certified. While I know many put little stock into THX Certification, Ultra does require that the AVR can go as low as 3.2 Ohms All Channels Driven.

With the 818 being fairly close in price, I really do not see many advantages going with the 818. If only using a single subwoofer and with no plans of ever adding another one, it does make more sense. However, with Multichannel Analog Inputs being offered on the flagship TX-NR5010 now, I really do think the 3009 offers a tremendous amount of flexibility.

I agree in that I would chose the 3009 over the 818 as well. I'm sure it is a typo but the 5010 does not have a 7.1 analog input where the 3009 and 5009 do have it. I realize the need for a 7.1 analog input are not as vital now but it should be offered on a flagship AVR such as the 5010. Then there is the whole 12v trigger issue with the Onkyo AVRs rolleyes.gif.

What about the 818 vs 1009? I'm going from an HK 635 receiver and have Wharfedale speakers that like power. Used in a 3.1 setup mostly TV with music secondary. Pricing right now has the 1009 slightly cheaper. Thinking I should still go 818 for some of the newer features like the video engine.

1009 has Audyssey MultiEQ XT
818 has Audyssey MultiEQ XT32
818 is currently the least expensive receiver with XT32
