Greetings,

I am trying to decide where and how to mount my Winegard FreeVision FV-HD30 antenna outside. I am using my TiVO DVR to measure signal strength of different antenna locations around the house. My weakest channel of interest, by far, is channel 13. Inside the house, holding the antenna in the direction of the tower I get a 30% signal strength. As soon as I step outside and climb up 6-10 feet on a ladder (with the back of antenna facing the siding) the signal increases to 50-60% strength. However, as soon as I raise the antenna above the roof line (about 20 feet) the signal drops down to 20%.

I was planning on mounting the antenna to the fascia so that it was above the roof line, but based on my test, is it better to mount it below the roof line? Why would the signal be worse above the roof line? Is it backscatter?

Thanks for your help!
