Can someone build be a relatively inexpensive music system?

First and foremost, this will be only for music, and will not be used for watching TV or movies, etc.

First obstacle is whether I should get floorstanding speakers or bookshelf speakers and placing them on stands.

They would HAVE to be at most, 4 feet apart from one another.

Second thing is what should I get to power the speakers? I remember Marantz is good but they are way too much for me, and are close to $2500 for the most part. I am thinking Audiogon's used market, would be by best bet to get a good amplifier to make the speakers sound the way they should and not damage it, rather than buying brand new and cheap.

These 4 choices are what I have narrowed it down to due to cost:

1. Paradigm Studio 10v5
2. Paradigm Studio 60v5
3. Focal Chorus 807V (very large bookshelves)
4. Focal Chorus 816V

I have listened to the 706Vs and they sound to my ears, almost identical to the Paradigm Studio 10s. I have yet to audition the floor standing speakers.

Important note: The place I currently live in has carpeted floors, but not sure if the place I will be moving into next year will be hardwood floors or not.
