Hi all...I have read 3/4 of this thread trying to learn as much as I can, but I could use some advice. I do all the home theater stuff here, as my husband just doesn't care that much and I am more picky. I'm very good at hooking up systems and pretty good at tweaking settings, but I have a question. I had an old PE VSX74TXVI that sounded great, but didn't have enough HDMI inputs, so I bought a PE VSX60 a few months ago, and it was terrible. Sound quality was awful. I don't know what has happened to Pioneer but I think I am done with them. I went last weekend and got a SR7007 after doing a lot of research and waffling around on what I wanted. So far I love the receiver and it's pretty easy to understand and operate, and I am amazed at the detail I hear in movies. The phono preamp on this receiver was terrible so I am using a Bellari tube preamp instead and that seems to have dealt with my dissatisfaction with the sound of my records.
I have 7.1 Atlantic Technology speakers (System 2400) that I have had for about 8 years, and one of their subwoofers, and I still would like a bit more VOLUME out of this receiver. The sound quality seems acceptable, but even when I turn it up to 80 or so I feel like I'd like more, I don't know, oomph, without worrying that I'm going to blow something up. I like to listen to music quite loud, and movies as well. Is the solution to this issue to add an external amp? I've never owned an external amp, so I have no idea what to get or look at or anything.
Bear with me here, I'm not an audiophile, but I do my best to be educated, and I'm tired of buying things that I end up not satisfied with. Suggestions would be appreciated.
