Hey All,

I just bought Black Sabbath Paranoid deluxe edition and I thought it was a DVD-Audio disk but when I load it up and goto the menu it says DTS 5.1 and Stereo only??

Wierd thing I pit it in DVD mode on the reciever and the DTS logo kicks in but it only works in Stereo??

I then run it in MultiChannel on the reciever and it seems like it is a DVD-Audio part, but I get some wierd distortions in the music playback..

So is this disk a DTS or DVD-Audio??

EDIT: I looked on the inside of the case it says STS?? OK Someone Please tell me what this disk is?? And what mode do I play it back on?

Is it from Sanctuary Records? I'm pretty sure that that one got mislabeled somehow. It is in fact NOT DVD-A, even though it's advertised as such. It's regular DVD Video with regular DTS 5.1 and stereo LPCM.

It's a DVD remaster/upmix from the 1974 Quadraphonic LP version.

There is a high resolution LPCM version floating around, but it's bootleg, so never released.

Yes it is the Sanctuary one.. I thought there was a Official DVD-A/SACD MC release of this album??

I have the Bootleg guess I'll keep listening to that one wink.gif

OK but in DTS Mode I get ONLY Stereo?? Even tho all the channels show lit up on the reciever..

SACD, yes. SACD MC, not that I know of.

It could be quadraphonic rather than 5.1. Do not listen to your center, but to the surround speakers. Not all tracks may have output on the rears.

There is a stereo SACD version of Paranoid. It is a Japanese SHM-SACD release from Universal Japan. Details here: [=http://sa-cd.net/showtitle/6607]

Apparently, there is no MCH high res version of it. If your receiver display shows the mch dts sign during playback, then it is a mch dts code in the data flow. Probably there is not much sound mixed in the rear channels, that is why you cannot hear anything coming from them. Sometimes only some reverberations are mixed in the rear channels. Put your ears close to the speakers and you can tell if they are active or not.
