Klipsch RW-12d Subwoofer - Only $299 - Save 70% - Page 2

and back to $299 for a few days at newegg..

I see the RW-12d listed at NewEgg for $499 - I assume the $299 sale is over. Is $499 the regular price there, or am I looking at the wrong place/missing a discount code?

Don't fear this sub goes on sale for 299 every few days, and 279 about every other month, Just wait a few days, the price drops like clock work.. This sale has been on going for a long long time, I would think by now neweggs stock maybe getting low... Something to think about .

Anyone have any recommended settings to use on the sub

for a HT or media room - is this still the sub to get around this price range?

In the sub 300 this is a powerful sub, but for a mere 200 more, you could enter the big leagues.

Pretty sure this logic applies to most audio products. However, most people I know do not consider upping their budget another 70%....

what's the big leagues for $500 as compared to this sub for $300?

In my opinion you don't get into the big leagues until the $1k range if you are using this sub as a basis of minor leagues.

The EPIK Legend (499) just to name one,, I knew this would start a avs riot

epic legend is not $499, more like $575 after you add in shipping. for that price you can score TWO RW-12d's when they go on sale for $279 again.
and on that note, I own a pair of these klipsch as well as a couple if mfw 15's and have a Erik legend coming on Monday. will post up my impressions if anyone cares ...

comicguy -- pick up REW for free over at home theater shack and use an Audyssey mic in the event you don't have a calibrated mic to do a a/b/c. The audyssey mic won't be point on perfectly calibrated, but in relation to a vs. b. vs. c. It'll be just fine. Post up some graphs along with your subjective impressions.

JoeHonest --- there is really much point in telling someone to order a Epik Legend over two RW-12Ds at the same price ---- unless space is a primary concern. I'd wager the pair of RW-12D's dig significantly deeper at higher SPLs(to port tune frequency of 22-24hz), and play louder than a single Epik Legend --- not to mention the benefit of dual sub placement and resulting smoothing of frequency response in room over a single subwoofer.


Do you have another suggestion to reach the big leagues for $500? The Epik is indeed a nice value sub --- but in the Legend you have two 12" drivers in a single sealed box with a shared 300 watt RMS amp between the two subs vs. two 12" drivers in two separate ported boxes with 340 watts a piece. The ported boxes will have six dB more output at port tune over the sealed box design. (since there are 2 that could mean as high as 12dB more clean output at 22hz than their sealed counterpart. 12dB is a quadrupling of volume) Functionally --- you have 2x's the power in more efficient ported box designs.

A pair of RW-12Ds is going to take that contest hands down. I fail to see how there is a big league hitter available for $500 that will easily take the RW-12D (must less two of these subs) when a single RW-12D was directly compared to four other internet direct $700-$900 subs in 2007 shootout by Sound and Vision and fared midpack...

I don't know what people are expecting for $300. I have one and I love it. Would I be happier with one that cost $1000? Probably not, since I don't want to spend $1000 on a subwoofer (just a matter of priorities, not that I have anything against either $1000 subs or those who like them).

This is a great VALUE at $300. If you want a deeper/louder/better sub, you'll need to spend a LOT more.

Actually, no. The rw-12 happens to be at a food price right now in new egg, but 4 months ago when I started looking, not so much. So I will take a look at the article, but subjective opinions on subs regardless of price is important, at least to me.

you can see directly how it compares to an older svs sb12 model in the link we are referring to. it has both subjective and objective bits.

What about 3 bic f-12 or 3 polk 505 thats only 600 for 3 12 inche ported subs that are well liked.

Both polk psw505 and bic F12 are capable of nothing lower than about 32hz because of driver limitations and a higher port tune. Unfortunately even if you stacked 100 you'd have the same problem. Adding multiple ported subs does nothing to produce spl below port tune.

This is probably the best you'd find in the $300 range? That's really the most I'd be willing to spend on a sub, and it's very tempting right now...

based on what i read, it seems the klipsch did better overall, if you want to go low, but music wasnt as tight. As long as its 'good', im ok with that. Its on my christmas list so hopefully the wife changes her 'no, you are not allowed to get a new subwoofer' mentality.

is this subwoofer discontinued. i see that newegg and amazon still carry it but on the klipsch website it says discontinued. this subwoofer is a part of the klipsch reference ii line correct?

Yes, it's discontinued. They don't have any current subwoofer in the reference line. If it was still being actively manufactured I can't imagine it would be quite this discounted.

I want another RW12D too but my wife says no....

So for any of us in the market for this sub, do we need to pick it up soon so we dont risk them going out of stock?

Since it's back at $300, I'd say yes, go for it.

My old sub is dead and this will be a perfect fit for a replacement for that set up!

how does a PA-150 compare against this sub? I was actually looking into either this sub, BIC, or PA-150. I went with the PA-150 because the 15 inch sub sounded attractive to me. It is a big sub though.

I purchased one of these almost a year ago from Newegg for 299.00 and free shipping. If you search the threads this sub is on sale at Newegg very often. It maybe discontinued on Klipsch website, but Newegg appears to either have a warehouse full of them or Klipsch is still making them for Newegg behind closed doors. There's noway a sub can be discontinued for a year or better and still be readily for sale ??
It's a good sub for a small area, but I would not recommend trying to fill a room size of let's say a 20 x 21. I would not pay anymore than 299.00 for it. Right now mine is setting idle as I now have a HSU VTF-3.3 and a 3.4 subs. Keep in mind the Klipsch is not on the same playing field as the HSU's.
