Klipsch RW-12d Subwoofer - Only $299 - Save 70% - Page 12

Separate issue, now that that seems out of the way:
My subwoofer is hooked up via front speaker cross-overs (attached to a separate amp). If I also hook the RW-12D to a .1 from the AVR (processor) and it's active, how will the sub handle the two sets of inputs? I'm without a subwoofer cable to test that, though I plugged an RCA cable into just the subwoofer (to no effect).

Any reason not to purchase from Amazon on these?

There's probably a greater chance of it arriving damaged if they don't double box it like newegg does. The original box is not very protective. newegg started double boxing them because of so many damaged subs.

What exactly are you asking?
It appears to me that you are trying to connect the Klipsch RW-12d to two different amplifiers. As you said, "(attached to a seperate amp)", and, "to the AVR (processor) and it's active). If you are trying to connect the sub to two different amps you really should not do that.

Anyway, that's about as much as I can tell from your post. If you could give more info on how you have it connected and what exactly it is that you are you trying to do it might be helpful.

Well, yeah, physically connect it to two different sources of amplification at the same time. Because I want to be able to switch between listening to true .1 programming (with its separate channel) and other programming (mostly music), using AVR settings and without having to play with cables each time. I guess I should contact Klipsch to confirm that would endanger the subwoofer.

Why wouldn't your AVR send appropriate signals to the sub when playing "other programming" like 2-channel music? Hook it up to the sub output, set your crossover point in the AVR settings, and any source that doesn't have a .1 channel (for instance, 2 channel audio), it'll send any signals below that crossover point to the sub.

That's my impression from feedback given on the (not 2) 3-channel set-up I use, but I could test it myself later with a regular RCA cable.

What "3-channel set-up" are you talking about?

I'm saying that most music (CD's or files ripped from CD's) is 2-channel. They are recorded in stereo. Your AVR will send whatever is below the crossover point to the sub, and everything else to the speakers.

Couldn't resist (ordered 1).......... Last day of sale is tomorow. Now I'll have (two) nice klipsch subs in the threatre room. smile.gif

I just got mine. Well packaged in it's double box, but there were some holes in the out box. The inner box had minor damage, but the sub was pristine. They are definitely new and not refurbed. Both of mine have the loose port rattling around in there.

I am thinking I will just try and glue it back in place. It does appear to be fitted with a friction fit with no adhesive. I just hope there are no problems with any damage inside the box due to the port being loose.

I own this sub and love it... and reviewed it awhile back in this thread. I have a question though...

Is there any way to tell if the sub is in a standby mode? I have the setting set to "Auto" power but notice the LCD is always on. It's not lit though. I can change settings on the sub with the rest of the system off and can hear a very soft click sometimes when I adjust the settings. I really wish I could tell if it's on the whole time or it is going to standby mode. I had a Polk which had issues with this auto feature. Is there a light on the back or any other way of telling when the sub is in standby versus powered on?

My display actually says "Standby."

So I guess mine's working.

And I guess mine isn't! Thanks for the headsup on this! Something told me mine wasn't turning off. Now I gotta troubleshoot why.

Bit the bullet and ordered it today...just couldn't pass it up at 299 and free shipping.

Fingers crossed that it arrives with no issues.

Now I gotta pick out the other 5 speakers to round out a 5.1 system driven by a new Yammy 673.

Choices choices!

In case anyone else is curious about this, there's a thread here:

Glad I got that one solved, picked up two sets of those $99 pair klipsch bookshelves. The center channel hurt @ $250. Already had one R12 sub, so nows I gots me two. lsol

Finally got my rw-12d on sale for $299! Thank you guys for this thread and others about it.

The wife wouldn't let me get the whole home theater setup as it would be well above a grand for receiver, front speakers, center channel and sub. She sort of settled on one piece at a time (I sort of ordered without permission) . So now I have a sub and no ht system. What do I do? Connect it to the computer of course!

I have one rca input on the sub going to the lfe channel on the soundcard and the other input to an rca "Y" then to the front channels on soundcard. I used a couple 3.5mm splitters at the soundcard--one side to the speakers and one to the rw-12d. So I matched this giant sub to a tiny Logitech 5.1 system (z-506 cool.gif ). Games sound amazing with this sucker!

However, I was having trouble getting lower frequencies in my music when it was only connected to the lfe channel. Is that because only surround encoding uses the LFE channel?

Yup, Got mine yesterday!

Port tube was loose - wrangled it back into place easily. Don't think I'll open it up and glue it unless I notice issues. Seems pretty solid.

Can't test it until I get the rest of my speakers. Ah well.

I want to thank everyone in this thread- glad I jumped on this. I had a Klipsch SW-8 years ago and it was a great sub.

Port tube was loose, removed back plate, hot glued front section where it attaches, then real quickly pushed tube into place from the back. Put back togather and just did test run......a OK now.
How long will the hot glue hold up to the pressure?

Forever if youre not skimpy with it.
Looks like this is what the factory used in attach the tube. The only pressure would be sound waves.

Now, I'm thinking without the tube sealed into place you may get unwanted sound vibrations at times?
Mine sounds pretty good as is, so I don't think I'll be voiding the warranty just yet.eek.gif
post #355 of 474
Got mine setup and working last nite.....haven't cranked it or anything but it sounds outstanding.

Haven't noticed any problems with the port tube not being glued in place, but this is at fairly moderate volumes.

VERY happy with this purchase!

It will not make you any more happy.

Most of the time I use a 32" TV with an old JVS FS-5000 along with a $50 subwoofer. I'm not any more satisfied going up to the threater room. smile.gif

Does anyone have any experience with NewEgg shipping/charging? I am assuming they charge you when they ship it? Will they ship it Monday? I am wondering if the debit card transaction will clear before Tuesday... biggrin.gifeek.gif
