I need help deciding between 2 receivers

Denon AVR-1612 or yamaha rx-v373.

In terms of audio quality, which one is better? Like the denon with the Audyssey, the yamaha has YPAO and has a feature called "subwoofer trim"

Here is the description of the sub trim : "The Subwoofer Trim control enhances the low frequencies by avoiding overlap with the front speaker output. This will result in a cleaner, more focused sound stage while providing a seamless frequency response. When subwoofer frequency overlap occurs in conventional systems, the overall sound is “pushed” toward the subwoofer. Subwoofer Trim takes care of this by separating the low subwoofer frequencies cleanly, thus stabilizing the front stage while providing a well-balanced enhanced bass sound."

I'm planning to use it with a Klipsch HD 500 if that helps any.

The Denon is going for $350 right now on Amazon (i think i've seen it $100 less or more before) and the Yamaha is $250 on Newegg with an additional $30 gift card.. for anyone interested.

But if you can focus on sound quality and tell me the better one, it will be great. Right now I have a denon 1312 hooked up to my hd 500 and my kilpsch promedia 2.1 computer speakers sounds much better (cleaner, crispier, and the bass hits are more solid not as muddy as the hd 500 ) than the hd 500 (in stereo of course). So I was just wondering if it was the 1312 that was not giving me the sound quality i was looking for.

.. Thanks for reading.

The 1612 (Audyssey MultEQ) will be able to EQ the sub whereas the v373 (YPAO) cannot.

Thanks jdsmoothie. I guess I'll go with the 1612.

I also have carpeted flooring and my room is almost square shaped in terms of length x width. Would anyone have some idea on how to place the klipsch hd 500's sub? It just sounds too boomy right now in the corner.

A square room is not as ideal as a more rectangular shaped room as far as room nodes go. Try doing the sub crawl to determine the best placement of your sub.

ok so i returned my 1312 and got a 1712 instead of the 1612 cuz of the MultiEqXT feature.. and i really have to say, this is what i wanted my speakers to sound like or at least close to it ..especially the sub smile.gif. With audyssey off, the sub sounds so weak and dull (can barely tell there is a sub), satellites lack highs and upper mids, just like it did on my 1312.. with audyssey on everything sounds wonderful smile.gif. Thanks for the replies jds smile.gif

now just waiting for the video card so i can bitstream..so much for the mid-high end gtx 570 that can't bitstream rolleyes.gif

Nice. The 1712 is an excellent entry level avr. Don't regret the $400 I spent. Just trying to sell it now.
