Spectrahome Traverse chair at Costco

I just saw this chair at Costco in Robinson PA, and wonder if anyone has any information on it.
- Spectrahome Traverse movie chair
- Model H10-10E
It's a power recliner wirth an Okin (I think) motor. I can't find any reviews here or elsewhere on this chair.

I have been eyeing this recliner for about a week, frustrated that my nearest Costco does not have it plugged in (there's no outlet except high above in the ceiling rafters about 40' away) and therefore it can't be reclined — and nobody in the store or at Costco headquarters could tell me anything about the chair. Today, I happened to be near another store in the San Francisco area which does have it plugged in. Eureka! I got the answer to my main concern — the leg-rest does in fact ascend first, before the back begins to recline. This is not true with many conventional recliners (which recline the back simultaneously with lifting the leg-rest). Obviously, when viewing a movie, you would not want to be reclined and looking at the ceiling — yet it is quite likely you'd want to have your legs elevated as you watch while sitting up. So it makes sense that the leg-rest lifts first, and then the back reclines. Furthermore, unlike conventional recliners which don't allow you to stop at intermediate positions, the powered mechanism can be stopped at any point in its range of motion.

Unfortunately, the demo floor unit which is plugged-in happens to be broken. It still works sufficiently to answer my question about the leg-rest (and to judge the comfort of the chair), but the back jerks as it moves through the recline cycle, and it is obviously loose within its mechanism. This doesn't bode well as to the durability of the mechanism, though there's no question that one week of duty on a Costco salesfloor is probably more destructive than ten years in a typical home. I also noticed that the chair was backed up smack against a crate containing two palletized recliners, such that the back would leverage against the crate as it went into recline, causing the chair and the pallet it's mounted on to scoot away from the crate. That's no way to treat a recliner. I think I will probably buy a pair of these, as I have faith in the quality of most everything I've ever purchased from Costco. I don't specifically know what kind of warranty these carry, but I understand that Costco is very good about returns.

The motor is indeed made by Okin, which is widely-used in many brands of powered chairs, including several powered home recliners as well as lifting recliners and medical chairs and tables. I am hopeful that the chair is structurally well-built, and that the only cost-cutting aspect of the design is the use of naugahyde (or some such faux-leather) on the side and back panels. All seating and arm-contact surfaces are top grain leather which is very supple and should be rugged.

Thanks for the reply.

My Costco did have one plugged in and operational. I also was glad to see that the footrest flipped up first, especialy since the seat height is such that my feet don't reach the ground! The chair moved smoothly to a semi-reclined position. Another nice feature is that the headrest is designed so that your head remains in a viewing position even when reclined. Without having a TV or screen in fromt of me, I can't say that this would be true when fully reclined, but probably through most of the travel. It seemed comfortable too, not as if my head was bent forward.

I asked about the warranty and return policy. It was a bit vague. They said they don't have a specific warranty period, but if in "a few years" something happens to the chair, or you don't feel satisfied, bring it back and you could "discuss it with the manager". I take that to mean that any legitimate problem would be addressed. I've never had to return anything to Costco, but i've also heard that their return policy is very liberal.

If you do buy these, please let us know what you think of them.

The Costco return policy IS very liberal, except for electronics, TVs in particular. It used to be that they would take ANYTHING back for ANY reason until they figured out that people were just replacing TVs every two or three years so they limited the return policy on electronics. The one thing to keep in mind is that regardless of how you paid, refunds are in cash. Which normally isn't that big of a deal except the time I ordered a projector online to get the sale price, then went to the store and got the same deal but it was too late to cancel the online order. I returned the online order to the store and got back $800+ in CASH.

Does anyone know if this chair is available from an "on-line" store? We live 6 hours from the nearest CostCo and don't even have a pickup truck...

thanks

Do you have a link to the chair so I can see who may be making this and what model it is?

What was the Costco item number? I am trying to see which stores have them instock? Thanks

This chair's importer/distributor is Spectra Home 2315 E Kivett Dr # B, High Point, NC 27260 Fone: (336) 885-6001

It carries a manufacturer's 3-year warranty on the recliner mechanism's mechanical parts and a 2-year warranty on electrical components of the mechanism. Costco's own policy may be even more liberal. I plan to purchase a pair this weekend.

I bought 2 of these about a week ago. Unfortunately, they're still sitting in my garage, unboxed, until I get my room ready for them. When I do get them set up, I'll post my impressions. Costco doesn't carry these online, so I had to borrow a pickup truck (and its owner) to get them home. They're heavy, which I guess is a good thing, as long as you're not trying to get them out of a truck.

I tried these out in costco, and they are EXTREMELY comfortable for me! Unfortunately, their price puts them squarely in contenction with the Fusion Escape, which is kindof my holy grail of seats.

If they were about 150 per chair cheaper, I would buy them... I need 8 seats, and that would represent a pretty good savings for me.

I would love to talk to someone who has sat in these and in the Escapes though and get their impressions.

Went to Costco yesterday, these chairs were selling for 449.97. They are going fast.

Can someone post up a picture of these recliners

Has anyone found a reason not to buy these chairs?

Well, I bought 10 of these chairs over the weekend, and I am very impressed with them so far. The headrest on these is fantastic, very supportive. The chair is a good height/length for me, and the leather looks great.

I was very interested in Roman's Fusion Escapes... I really wanted the adjustable headrests, thought the trays might be cool, and the cooled cup holders were a bonus. The storage compartments would have been fine, but probably would have just collected junk. While I would have appreciated the features, I think they would have been a novelty at best for my guests.

Ten of Roman's chairs would have cost me about $7,000.... With these costco chairs, I came in alot less than that. I thought they actually looked very similar in design to the Fusion Escape as well.

Aaaaand.... you can't beat the costco return policy. The chairs have a decent warranty, but being able to take them back if needed is nice. I really only needed 8 chairs, but bought two extras just in case! smile.gif

Anybody else try these? I am liking mine, but I am still pondering escapes. I'd really like the tray tables and adjustable headrests.

I am in Boise, and I drove to Utah and bought just about everyone I could find between Ogden and Provo. I bought 10 of them. I MAY be willing to part with them... wink.gif

How do these compare in build quality to Seatcraft Bella or Barcalounger Matinee?

I'm in Toronto and not able to get my hands, or butt, in the chairs (shop online)!

VERY Nice. Where did you hide the power cords?

Do we have the dimensions of these?

fst96se, I want to keep 4 chairs like you did, how much total width did four of those chairs take?
Can someone provide the measurements for this?

Especially interested in the width of four of them together, like in fst's pic.
