Slow QAM playback

I recently gave my sister my first HTPC setup. She purchased a USB tuner to add to he Diamond 750 PCIe tuner installed. The QAM playback in WMC is slow and glitchy especially with HD channels. Any suggestions? I suspect the USB tuner may be at fault. Is the a way to set the PCIe tuner as the default or might something else be a possible solution?

Might the issue be too many splitters before the tuners?

Does the slowness happen with both live and with recorded HD programs?

Disable the USB tuner and see if an HD program is slow(does is stutter to catch up) when watched live on the other tuner?
What is your CPU utilization when live TV is slow?
If you watch and record a prograam at the same time are both the Live and the recording slow?

I have a USB ota tuner and its very slow. Channel changing and everything is just way slower that the internal. Although I think playback is ok once it gets going. I noticed the thing ran pretty hot too.

You can set tuner priority in WMC. It's done channel by channel so it will take some time.

Unfortunately it seems the internal tuner is dead. It isn't old, going to be sent back for a refund. The cable signal itself is poor. She gets random pixelation on HD channels. I think we are fighting two battles. Poor signal and poor tuner.
