Samsung PN64D8000 or PN64E8000

Hey guys,

Is the E8000 worth the extra cash or should I try to get the D8000 for about 600 cheaper? or A different display all together? I may end up getting a 59-60" display over the 64 but I guess my question is am I better off with this years model or last years? I was all about buying an LCD until a friend of mine talked me in to plasma.

The new E series are better.
Only IF you have to have a 64" otherwise the E6500 60" is a great buy.
They both use the new 'Pro' panel.

I thought there was added stuff that made the 8000 series better than the 7000 and i am not sure what the 6500 is. I would assume 65 or 60 would look the same just screen size, no?

There is no 7000 this year, it was dropped and the 490 series.
Only the E6500 and E8000 have the 'Pro' panel that's an upgrade over the 'real black' panel.
The upgrade in in the glass, it's not just a software upgrade.

I am wondering if that is incorrect. This is from Samsungs website.

But even if the 6500 or 7000 whatever it may be this year does not have glass that is as nice as the 8000 perhaps that alone tells me the 8000 is the way to go?

There appears not to be one in Canada.

I cannot really find any differences myself from the E7000 and the E8000 besides the webcam deal. Is that the only difference?

Or maybe a better question is... am i better off buying last years D8000 vs this years E8000? Or has enough been added to warrant buying this years model? Or is a better comparison this years E7000 vs last years D8000?

I went through the same dilemna a couple months ago and asked the same questions. The response I got overall was that the E series picture was slightly better. But you won't be able to tell unless you have a D8000 and an E8000 next to each other. You're mostly paying for the fancy doohickeys like motion detection, face recognition, voice navigation, etc. on the E series.

The D series is still a great set... I went with that option and saved money. I'm no videophile, but the picture on my D series looks great! If moneys not a factor, get the latest and greatest.

Had both televisions and you can't go wrong with either. If the extra smart features and the ever so slight improvement in black levels don't do it for you, go with with the D8000.

I plan to keep this TV until the wheels fall off for lack of better wording. That being said am i better off with the E or the D? Maybe thats the best way to put it. I was unsure between the 60 and 64 but I am decided that i want the 64. I would prefer to be under 3000 but if the added features warrant the price i will just save a bit longer for it. So i guess my question is if you had 3000 would you buy the E or D.

I own both the PN64D8000 and the PN64E8000 and I will honestly say the PQ on the E is noticably better,(including watching SD channels almost HD quality)on the E,comparing them side by side.Both out of the box with NO calibration to either of them,This is just my opinion.I have a slight directional buzz at 15ft away that can be heard slightly when the tv volume is set at 7 or lower,I have NO complaints with either of the TVs

This year they have the 'Pro' panel that is an upgrade over the 'real black' panel the E550 and down use including the humble E450.
The 'Pro' panel upgrade is in the glass, it's not just a software upgrade.

I'm facing the same dilemma - might just bite the bullet & go with the 7000 since I'm not sure I'll miss any of the 8000 features.

Have you considered how much you'll actually use/appreciate the extra 8000 features?

since the screen is a hardware difference, its a no brainer. Software is not a big deal to me but a physical different screen is all the reason to spring for the e8000.

Hate to revive old threads but I am in the market for a 64" Samsung. Does anybody know if the pro glass comes on the 7000 series as well as the 8000 or is that a feature of the 8000 only?

I'm leaning towards the 7000 as it seems most people reviewed don't even use the hand gestures and added camera on the 8000.

Save money and get the e7000. The e8000 isn't worth it, unless you are into that interactive control stuff. You won't be able to tell a difference in picture quality between the two.
