What is the best $5000 +/- projector - right now? - Page 2

Thanks for all your comments. Is there ANY difference between the JVC X30 and the JVC S45? The reason I ask is that the reviews on the X30 say the 3D is great (here: http://www.projector.com/reviews/jvc/dlax30-review.php) and the reviews on the RS45 say the 3D is not so good (here: http://www.projectorreviews.com/jvc/dla-rs45/). Certainly confusing if they are the same!

Is the 3D emitter built into the S45? The more I think about having to run a Cat 5 in the roof (not an easy task) and down this side wall, the more I'm thinking a built in 3D emitter is mandatory in my selection. If neither of the JVC's have it - then I'm thinking Epson 6010? I really wanted a DLP or Lcos projector though.....argh.

The transmitter is not required to be at the screen for every situation, I bounce the IR image off my 142" screen and also did the same for a 106" / HW30 setup recently.

The X30 and the RS45 are the same projector, just different areas of JVC (consumer vs. professional). The problem with most professional reviews is that they are somewhat subjective when it comes to ghosting. That's why I did the mini-shootout this year.. to show the 3D performance through the glasses of the tough scenes in 3D.

Look closely at the edges of the house and light post. All 3D reviews of projectors should include through the glasses screen shots.. this way folks can decide for themselves what level of ghosting they are comfortable with.

The X30 and RS45 are the same. The only difference is cosmetic. The RS45 has a gold colored ring around the lens and the X30 has a silver ring around the lens. The picture is exactly the same. Both of them have an external 3D emitter that is NOT built in. The 2D is great on both, but the 3D is just ok. If 3D is important to you, more than 2D, then the Epson is the better choice. Personally I would go for the JVCs because the 2D is amazing on them.

I saw some RS35's going for less than $3K B-stock for awhile. That is probably the best deal I've seen going for a solid HT PJ. I have one in my room and for 2D, I haven't found its equal yet.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys.

Aas many of you know, I have over 10,000 posts under Mark Haflich in my pre and early AV Science days. We all changed from our own names or posting names, to AV Science Sales with an identifying number. As a salesman representing brands, I just can not express myself freely in print if I don't like a particular element of a particular product or a particular polic .I guess some manufacturers think I have undue influence in the marketplace. I keep telling them its power to use, not abuse. Yuk Yuk But various products do have strengths and weaknesses and I like any consumer and indeed I am a HT consumer, have my personal favorites based on my circumstances and priorities. My job is to guide and assist and to try to make good recommendations based on your circumstances and PQ priorities if you need or ask for such help. I am also glad to talk to all, even my friend Coderguy, and he is a good man and makes valuable contributions here even though we might differ from time to time. smile.gif

anyone bought b-stock jvc yet? reviews? new to the forum and interested in a new, first time, projector. I''m thinking epson 5010, benq7000, jvc (3x or rs45 or 55 if posible in my price range), or the panny ae7000 (but not so much lately). Any thoughts, I'm a plasma guy with mostly80% 2d movies needs and 20% games/sports for the next couple yrs.

thanks, mike
